Any word if there will be a new GT3 (non RS) 4.0 before the 998 comes out??

I would think not. The RS will be the last and only 997 4.0.

Very unlikely, imo. BTW, the next gen is a 991 not 998.

Where is it going to be placed in the model line? Between a 3.8 RS and 4.0 RS? Doesn't make any sense...

sorry, what do you mean? The new 991 GT3 will have an entirely different engine, probably a DFI. I'm pretty sure that the 991 GT3 RS will be faster than the 4.0 and make around the same power, if not more.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking when I wrote 998- meant 991.
I was discussing the 4.0 RS with an assistant at the factory dealership and he gave me the impression that the 4.0 WAS the new engine. I took that to mean in an upcoming base GT3. I admit that I didn't drill into him about specifics but that's the impression I got from him.

What I mean is Porsche wouldn't kill their own product (3.8 RS) by releasing a 997 4.0 GT3. Because that 4.0 GT3 will be priced higher than the 3.8 RS due to the engine and the 3.8 RS will loose all its appeal. There are still plenty of mkII 3.8 RS sitting in the dealer lots...

And if they priced the 4.0 GT3 lower than 3.8 RS than no one will buy the 4.0 RS

4.0 is the last of the legendary Mezger engines. It's the old engine not the new one. And it has been confirmed by Porsche reps that this is the last iteration of that engine.

Next GT3 is approx 3-4 years away.

I agree I think Porsche will go close out the 997 chassis with a bang and have eluded to that with the 4.0 RS ... an exclusive trim line at limited build numbers just as they did with the 996 GT2, then tool up and off to the 991

The 991 GT3 will weigh under 3,000 pounds and have a 4.0 DFI engine(making at least 500 hp) with an improved version of the current PDK, and active aero according to my crystal ball

That sounds like a GT-R or 458 where the car does all the work for you...

Yes, time will tell. Personally, I hope Porsche will make a big jump in technology instead of their usual strategy of making incremental improvements and making you buy a new car every one or two years!

As much as Porsche would love to make incremental changes and throw out scraps here and there to the begging followers, I think the game may have changed with the introduction of the new Mclaren. I know the Mclaren is not in the same price range as the GT3, but they will be making a lower cost model that will put pressure on Porsche.

As for those of us that likes to row, we can always stick to the older models I guess.
