Saw a 959 - Awesome
I figured this was the best place to post this. On Friday, I saw two awesome red P-cars in Atlanta (Dunwoody to be specific). First, I saw a red GT3 at Blockbuster. It was the car from eBay and Jenkins Auto, with red seat backs, guages, etc. Looked great. I can't believe how low these cars (and GT2's) are from the factory. Then, not even five minutes later, I saw a red 959 parked in front of my girlfriend's neighbor's house. It looked great. It's amazing how modern it still looks. My girlfriend could not believe the car was from the 80's. The car had a Colorado plate, in case anyone knows the owner. How many of those did they make total, how many are now in the states, and what are they bringing? I took a pic with my phone but have no idea how to post it.

Seeing a 959 in the US is a rare sight indeed. They were never imported officially due to emmision regs. I seem to remember Bill Gates has one and tried to get it made exempt from the regs but even he failed!
I think that there are a fe in the US now on restricted mileage or collectors car plates, sure someone else will know the right term.
A good friend of mines father picked his 959 up from the factory all those years ago and was given a driving lesson by none other than Walter himself. Porsche were worried that the average punter would not be able to cope with all that power....
They are a strange car to drive, not like a 993TT at all, the set up is quite soft but I am sure again that this was something that could be changed to suit the individual owner. Must admit it does go like stink though!
There was quite a good body kit avialable to make your P car look like a 959 even if it did not go like one. Seem to remember El Richie had one down in Southend back at the end of the 80's.
Anyway, gorgeous car sounds like a good night out!

There are more than a few in the states now as a company called Canepa Design changed a few things on the engines to make them conform to SMOG regualtions, I know of six 959's sitting in one place now and I'm not anywhere near the U.S.
I van get some pics if you guys want.

I worked for a gray market shop in the 80's. We converted a number of 959's and then Porsche convinced the DOT to reject them. For various reasons, I never got a ride in one. Still bummed about that.
There are a few here locally. Saw one recently at the dealer when I had my car in for service. Still a sweet ride, almost ageless.
