Which RS roll bar to buy?
Which RS roll bar to buy?
I was looking at the available roll bars (Sharkwerks, GMG, Tech, etc.) and I wanted your opinion as to which one to buy & install for the '08 RS? Also, given my color combo (black/orange) would you think that the orange is the better color? Primarily a street car, I track it infrequently and the seats have the adjustable back rests.., Thx in advance.

Hope you are enjoying your RS. We have a quite a variety of rollbars that we make here in-house at RSS in California. From simple bolt-in harness bars to more aggressive fitments that require drilling and/or welding - we have you covered. I have over 50 bar varieties in-stock and many are already powder coated in the popular Porsche colors and ready to ship. We also keep many raw bars in-stock for those specific color requests.
Personally, I prefer black rollbars and rollcages. But to each their own - it's all personal preference on what YOU like. I do believe a orange bar will look incredible in your car but it will be more visible in your rear view and catch a bit of glare on those bright sunny days compared to a satin black bar.
I suggest either our RSS 901 Series bar that bolts to the front and rear lower seat belt anchor points or our RSS 930 Series bar that mounts to the lower front seat belt anchor points and the rear shock towers. Install is straight forward and the look and fit is great with no drilling or welding required.
However, we have many options to choose from so feel free to contact us or one of our dealers directly for more info.
We can also assist you with harnesses if you are planning on upgrading to sport slotted seats as you should not use harnesses with non-slotted standard seats at any time.

Thx Bryan.., great pics. The RSS 901 Series bar looks like the easier install (I'll be doing it with a friend) but the RSS 930 Series bar looks cleaner. Looks like it will need cutting the rear carpeted deck. Is one bar more functional than the other....? I mean in case of a rollover or adding stiffness to the body..? Also, no issues on seat travel?

Both the 901 and 930 are pretty straight forward installs for those familiar with removing trim panels and doing rollbar installs in Porsches, etc.... However, the 930 is a bit easier except for the minor notching of the carpet over the rear shock towers. The 901 is a glorified harness bar but will offer added rigidity to the chassis. The 930 series will also add rigidity and since it mounts to the rear shock towers, adds a bit more functionality. If you are going to be door to door racing, we offer other styles that need some holes drilled into the floorboards and others that are weld in.
Which seats do you have? As long as you don't have the sport adaptive seats, you will be able to move the drivers seats all the way back. If you have the seat reclined quite a bit, this will limit how far back you can go obviously. Feel free to contact me if you need further information. Personally, I think the 930 series is perfect for the RS and notching the carpet is not a huge ordeal if done carefully. Thanks. B

If you're not planning on running harnesses, why the need for the bar? A lot of DAS bars pop up for sale as well, can get them used for under 1k. The OEM RS bar is very nice, pricest of them all, but you can pretty much sell it for what you bought it for when the time comes.
+1...since your seats do not accept a6pt harness why are you putting a roll bar in your car?...

Who cares if you get flamed, it's your car and you can do whatever the hell you want with it. DAS is just another manufacturer, google DAS bolt in roll bar and you should get plenty of results. I have one in my 3. It does bolt onto the rear shock towers so you either have to cut or remove the rear deck carpet.
Depends on what you want. For looks, pick what you like.
If you need a functional roll bar, check the requirements of the organization you will be driving with. They will specify the type of steel, location of witness holes, method of fixation, etc, etc. A simple bolt-on mod usually isn't enough.
