Lots of smoke cold start 3.6 GT3RS

Everytime i start my RS cold it smokes white a good amount. It would usually do this only when the car would sit. Now it does it even if I drive it daily. Any ideas on what it could be?

If its bad every day, time to call Alex @ SW and upgrade to a 3.9L

My 996 GT3 and 997 TT both blew white smoke when starting cold. I think this is quite normal. Something to do with horizontal opposed cylinder heads leaving oil somewhere that gets burned off upon cold starts. Do a search on the forum on related threads.

Sounds normal. I found if you let the car idle for about a minute before you shut it off, the smoke is gone or minimal next time you start it.

Yes, it is wise to leave it on, for a couple of minutes even if it is not a Turbo version

yup, happens to me too. although mine does it more randomly than yours. I just make sure there's no one walking behind when I start the car, especially in places like the office where I'm likely to know the person I just gave a face full of smoke to

Yes very normal on my RS too. Nothing to worry about. It goes away quickly. People that see it say it looks cool. Doesn't bother me! She's an amazing engine!

I think a lot of smoke on start up every time is a sign something is not right. I know of many GT-3's, including my own, that very, very rarely smoke and then it is barely noticeable.

Completely normal bud.

It'll be a lot more frequent when tracking/beating on the car and letting it sit for a few days.

Normal, and idle before shut down helps.

I have also got in the habit of, during and after the idle time, not pressing the brake pedal after the motor stops, only use the e-brake. I read here once that depressing the brake right after the motor stops releases any vacumn from the motor.

The theory is a bit of vacumn won't let oil by the RMS and the hot oil around the RMS is given time to "clear" away from the seal area. By the time the vacumn has reduced to nothing there is minimal oil to exit the RMS. Seems to work for me.

Both of my Turbos and my Boxster all did this. I've been told switching from 0W-40 to 5W-40 improves it dramatically. I plan to switch on my next change.
