996 GT2 to 997 GT2 comparison
996 GT2 to 997 GT2 comparison
I am ready to move on from my 05 996 Turbo S. I wanted a 10 GT3 but the lack of torque just left me wanting (all my cars are boosted). I have driven a 996 Gt2 quite a bit and liked the overall feel but have not been in a 997 Gt2 and there are none around me. Other than the obvious exterior and interior changes can someone give me some feedback if you have spent a good bit of time in both. The 997 Gt2 looks like a great value right now and seems to have all the things I want. Thanks
I own a 996 GT2, and have driven the new 997 GT2RS. The driving and power differences are not huge IMO, and on the street even less significant. The seat of your pants doesn't really tell the story, but I think on the track the margin would become evident, but that would also depend on how well your 996 is set up. The newer version (GT2RS) does have some nicer components, like carbon fiber fenders, hood, bumper/grill etc. I personally did not think the interior was any nicer. This is pure opinion of course.
When my good friend who races, first purchased his GT2RS, I asked him if it was a big difference from his previous 996 GT2. I fully expected him to be bursting with enthusiasm about how much better it was, but that was not the reaction I got. He said no, not really that noticable. He was always extremely impressed with his 996, and still is.
I think some people just have to have the latest version of whatever, and in their minds it is of course worlds better than the previous version. Most car manufactureres exploit this to the maximum. My life experience is that this is not always the case, especially with a manufacturer like Porsche, that builds, and has always built superb, exceptional machines.
