What a "street" car!!! Incredible to see what Porsche is doing!

 

'race' modes interesting. Start car, drive up to 25km silently on electric power only and then hit race mode and cane the engine to 9000rpm?! Is it still a cold engine!?

Wonder what that does to engine wear...

on paper, 918 is outrageous car. mpg, price, lap times, etc. imo its not so exciting in reality. i just dont care about mpg in a supercar. the engineer talks about how now sports cars can be as efficient as economy cars. why is that even desirable? the style is too tame for me also. looks like a cross between ferrari 360 and boxster. nice but not nearly wild enough.

when it comes to million dollar cars, i want something more like a pagani or the macca p1. interesting to see what ferrari will counter with.

 

Its possible goverments will step in if 'supercars' don't go green, if only on paper. Its easier for manufactures to take the lead instead of being directed by law.

This is a test bed like the 959 was before, its more about marketing and customer awareness and involvement then making a car for money. Look at the Buggati, VW made a loss on each and everyone by a massive magin. It has a place...

This IS just like the 959, only.... different. A hotbed of new technology packed in a super car. Owners will be doing a lot of road testing for the company but will be well taken care of as they enjoy being the first ones to experience how great the potential of the future can be.

Depending, we will probably see many of these bits in future Porsches. I couldn't help but think... as the overhead shot towards the end leaving the pits and passing the street 981 parked there [I THINK that was what it was]... You do realize the new 991/981 have extra room in the chassis and engine areas and there is a reason for that.... not just to lengthen the wb and improve high speed stability.

Look at all the 959 technology that evolved into the 993tt. Look how superior a good 993tt turned out to be! If you are unaware, more than one person tested the two. Of course, the 959 had a lot left on the table as Bruce Canepa has proven with his modded cars here in California.

Frankly, this video got me excited about these.

Great video! Thanks. I agree with Harris, in that I would still love to see a lightened version, stripped of all the electric/hybrid stuff.
