I have seats and OEM rollbar in my cab? , realizing it's still not a safe track car, even with tons of HP it's more the weight that hinders and doing 160 plus at Daytona the roof lining is starting to tear . It was fun to start with but now looking for used cup car or GT3rs as well.

I was in the same boat 3-4 years ago.

Have been tracking a bone stock Carrera S, then club coupe. Gradually got promoted to Advanced level. Felt the need for harness and a bit more acceleration. A chance came up to order a 2010 GT3RS. Did it and never looked back.

Yes, there are always faster drivers than me in their slower cars. Don't bother me too much as I am out there to have fun, not to win price or pride.

I say go for it.

Should I spend more time driving, or more time reading threads??

BTW, have I tracked with you at Ridge? I went down 5 times this year.

Congratulations. I believe there are many of us like you out there. Started DE 3 years ago with a 2009 S - puer stock, and am in the process (car on its way) of moving into a 2011 GT3. I have done 16 track days including the 2-day PSDS in Alabama. Driving smooth line and picking up speed, but feel I need a bit more umpf.

Have moved up from beginner level (Green/D) to Blue/B. Was considering the option of moding the hell out of the '09, but everyone I spoke with, and feedback from this forum said, 'no matter what you do to it, it will never be a 3'. I see many 3's at the DEs and they are beautiful, quick, and sound great. Thought, that if I want to continue to improve, and challenge myself, it was time to make the move.

The only thing I've been cautioned on is that it's not uncommon for newbie 3 owners to do some offroading at the track; go into a turn they were comfortable with in their old car, and now carrying more speed (and feeling of confidence), get a bit squirrely. So, I will be taking the first few sessions (or even first weekend) at 6/10-7/10 to learn how to drive the 3 properly.

You made a great point here about having fun. There is much fun to be had for those who can leave their ego at the door.

The GT3's are awesome cars. I too had a Cayman before which i tracked except I stopped short of sending my car to TPC. Instead, I chose a fully baked factory engineer car that really only needs tires, pads and fluids to be devastating at the track. Pull the trigger I say

PS: never come to a GT3 forum unless you want to leave with one. It's kinda like asking a bunch of barbers whether you need a haircut

I am/was in the same boat as you (OP). These are the EXACT things that went through my head before pulling the trigger on mine recently. Just took the car to the track yesterday, and definitely have no regrets. Yes, it's a lot of car for someone who has only really done HPDE's and open track days, but it's SO worth it! I know I personally have a lot to learn as a driver still, but if you can make it work without sacrifices, it's worth doing.

When you can afford it and you want it. Then it's time.

Fear no GT3, respect her and you will get faster and faster. It's a car to learn how to drive... I would suggest track insurance, just in case...
