Smile GT3 mods

Congrats on your acquisition. If you enjoy tracking then I see you enjoy the visceral feel of your GT3. So do I. I started out with a 997.2 C4S Pdk which I still have. Tracked it 2 seasons and then was lucky enought to geta low mileage(10K) 2007 GT3 in the PNW. Using C4S this winter with winter tires in Seattle area. GT3 will get coolant pipes welding in a few weeks.
Will likely defer engine mods for a while (tempted though with engine out to get upgraded LWFW, 4.0 clutch, cup shifter cables); LSD diff ok for now; can rebuild and regear as I get better on the track. Plan 6-10 track events this year money and time permitting.

Have done
GMG roll bar
GT2 seats with alcantara inserts Schroth 6 pt; necksgen unit
aftermarket Kenwood with backup camera to replace faulty PCM 2.1
front DRL FVD
rennline pedals and track mat
fire extinguiser BK mount
Rennline grills
RSS center exhaust bypass
clearplex
front end wrap to replace clear bra

spending $ on coaching to help me enjoy this super fun car.

Hahahaha I can't believe you're on your 4th car in 12 months!!
That said, it sure makes for some entertaining threads!
I won't have too much to contribute to this one but I'll be lurking never the less.

Congrats Serge she's a beauty!
Enjoy!!

Sid.

Thumbs up GT3 vs 991S

SM ATL,
Congrats on your GT3! It looks great with your new mods.
I have been wanting to own a GT3. However, I was at the dealer on Saturday and they had a 991S in white with aerokit cup -- so tempting.
It's cool that you have owned both cars now. Would you be kind enough to describe how your GT3 compares to your old 991S?
A) street driving. Ride. Power.
B) track.
C) overall experience.
Thank you in advance!

Quick answer on your question about the GT3:

A) the GT3 FEELS faster, like you would be on the race track for commuting. On paper, on the road and on the track, the 991S and the GT3 are probably equally fast (or let's say that the cars are so good that the driver would be the determining factor). The 991S is amazingly fast and capable and has a more compliant ride. It is probably a better choice if you do a lot of miles or if you want a more spacious and modern cabin.
B) On the track, the 991S will make you look like the best driver in your group. The car is so stable and keeps you so much out of trouble that you will be very fast and safe. The GT3 is a wilder animal to tame. Whether it is with TC on or off, it will be more twitchy. I experimented a bit at the track.... and spun the car where the 991S would not even have gone a bit sideways . Nevertheless, the GT3 stays very controllable and predictable at the limit.
C) Overall experience: I am very happy for now with the GT3. Maybe after some time I would find it too raw... or lose my license because it is more tempting to drive the GT3 fast.

If you like GT3's and the 991, wait about a year and get a 991 GT3 that could be the best of both worlds (may depend on the transmission though). It's probably what I'll end up doing at some point.

Agree with SM_ATL. It's much easier to drive fast on the track in the 991, and it certainly helped me in learning the racing lines on a new track. Now my lap time on the track has regressed since I have to learn the handling dynamics of a different car and slower manual shifting, plus GT3 is definitely less forgiving to your mistakes.

If you are new to track, 991 or 997 with PDK is an awesome car to learn the line. Now I am still struggling with heel and toe, and certainly GT3 has spun on me when I lifted. But, as a track car GT3 is a safer car because of the roll bar and 6 point harness.

Well... Hmmmm... yes

Did not lift but turned TC off and stayed on the brakes a bit too long Would never have happened with the 991, but a great way to learn to be a better driver vs. 'fly by wire'
