997.2 GT3 gear shifting, is this normal?

Recently drove a 2010 GT3 with with less than 15K miles on it, in flawless condition but the car apparently had some track time judging by the glazed brake pads and condition of the rotors. Dealer inspection checked out ok with no problems.

Not sure if the car has the short shift kit however when shifting into 1st gear from a stop, it doesn't always seem to click in. I noticed this ONLY when shifting into 1st gear and not any other gears. Every time I stop at a light, I almost have to let the car roll slightly back or forth to click it into 1st gear.

Also as I am coming to a slow stop, WITH my foot on the clutch, should I be able to switch into 1st gear? - To have it ready in gear when the light turns green. Because if I am just under 20km/hr, the gears grind if I try to put it into 1st. If I am under 15km/hr, I can shift into 1st no problem.

Can other GT3 owners please let me know if this is normal behavior? Doesn't sound like it but the Porsche technician found no problems. He said IF there was such a problem, it would not be covered under warranty as it could only be a result of track driving...

You're not supposed to shift into 1st. That's normal. My BMW wouldn't let me force it in even if I tried.

If it is what I think it is, the not always clicking in is normal on most high end manual cars.. I don't know why, but I've experienced it a lot. My solution is depress the clutch, press it again, and it should snap in ok.

Also, from 2nd to 3rd gear, GT3s have a weird shift to them.

If the dealer gives you full warranty on the car, then I wouldn't worry too much.

Sounds odd to me. Yes, they do shift knotchy until they warm up, but it should go into first without having to double clutch it.

Find another dealer you aren't buying a Honda Civic it's a GT3 that's meant to be tracked and advertised as such warranty should still apply. Don't own a GT3 currently but have a 2 at the shop that I moved around the last couple of days noticed no notching going into 1st completely smooth.

I agree with you 100%. The head tech at Porsche drove it and said there could be some wear on the synchronizers in the transmission. He said they would have to take it apart to see what the problem is, send pics to Porsche and see if they would approve warranty repair. From past experience he says they will come back and say its wear on the parts caused by driver error and not due to a defective part. Maybe I should call Porsche NA myself to inquire...

Mine's a little hard on the gears when it's cold (as is everyone else's by all accounts), however I've not experienced the problem you're describing. Honestly if it was me, I'd err on the side of caution. If you're set on this specific car, then get the Porsche Warranty and try to get another dealer check it out before you buy. At the very least I would try and drive another GT3 (preferably at a different dealer) just to compare.
