2010 GT3 Everyday driver?
Hope you guys can help me make a decision. I've been considering buying a new 991S, but I love the 997 GT3 for the obvious reason it's a GT3 and it's manual!
I'm about to pull the trigger on a CPO but wanted to get some input.
1. Does anyone use it as an everyday car? If so, what do you think about that? The only concern I have is the depreciation of such a unique car. Rough ride and exhaust noise don't bother me a bit. But then again, a car like this should be driven. Basically, if not everyday, I'll put about 10k a year on it. If everyday, then about 20k a year.
2. Are maintenance costs any more than say a 991S? Are the intervals the same?
3. Any known problems with the car that I should look out for?
Thanks

I had a GT3RS and it wears me out too much to be a daily driver. Hard clutch, tons of road feel that will numb your fingers if you go on certain types of road, rides hard, rides too low, shifter is heavy duty, noisy and too much attention for daily car and why do you want to drive a race at normal speeds . The only comparison I would say is as hardcore would be an Lotus Elise or exige. Go for a long test drive and see if it's something you can live with.
If you must drive everyday I would go for a 991 GT3 with a lift option or 997.2 with a lift option. Too many places can rip off your lip.

I drive my 997.2 GT3 at least 4 times a week and have put about 9000 miles on it in last year. I have gotten so used to the stiff clutch, the hard ride and the noise that it doesnt bother me at all. I even take my car on 150+ mile road trips. I forgot to mentioned that my car is also lowered and pretty much all the bushings and engine mounts have been replaced by solids ones and I still enjoy driving the car on the street.
Personally I love daily driving the GT3. Some days I really have to fight the urge to drive the car ever day of the week. Im not really worried about depreciation. I bought this car to enjoy it and have fun. I didnt buy it as an investment.
I wouldnt worry about maintenance. I daily drive and track my GT3 and in the 15,000 miles I have owned it I have never experienced any issues. The 997.2 GT3s dont have any issues. They dont have the RMS leak which the previous gen had, Pressure Plate failure, I dont think any 997.2 GT3s have experienced the coolant hose issues and most GT3s had the centerlock fixed in the recall from Porsche a while back.
According to the manual the car requires an oil change every 12,000 miles or 1 year (Which depends if you track the car or not)that should run you around $200 at the dealership and then the first big service is at 24,000 miles which should run you around $1,500 to $1,800. I think the 991 interval is similar to this.
When i was in the market for a Porsche, I was considering the 991S and 997.2 GT3. At the end I went with the GT3 since it is more fun to drive. If you get the chance drive both and then decide.

Thanks for all the great advice so far. It seems like it can be a DD if you want it to be. Look forward to more opinions. I'm getting even closer to pulling the trigger.
I did talk to the dealership, and it appears that service costs are comparable to a 991S (and in fact a bit cheaper). Surprisingly, insurance is cheaper too.

I drive my 07 GT3 to the office about three days a week. Some days it feels like work and that everyone is in my way. Other days I'm relaxed and enjoy myself.
If the roads on your route are in decent shape you'll enjoy yourself.
I say go for it!

I would only DD a GT3 if I had another car as an option for days that I didn't want to drive it. I DD'ed my 997TT and it just wasn't convenient. I had Sport Adaptive Seats and trips longer than an hr gave me lower back pain, little storage space, and I would imagine that the ride in a GT3 would be extremely rough. I'd def do it, but there would be days that I would want to drive a big comfy SUV or something.

I daily drove my GT3 the first two months of owning it and got over that real quick, I parked it in the garage and drove my DD after that. Don't get me wrong I love driving the GT3 but just not to practical for everyday. I drive it about 2-3 times a week now if that.

I don't DD mine because my route to work is around 45min-1hr of traffic (first gear, neutral, first gear). Picked up a Mini JCW for every day.
Like many have said, I do fight off the urge to drive it every day even though I'd love to. Everything and everyone feels like they are just in your way.
the 997.2 have no real issues. I've owned 3 997 (4S, 4 GTS, and GT3) and have had 0 issues with them.
I'd wait off on the 991. I saw one person today at the dealership today who had it in for some kind of call back I think? They were going to swap out a ton of parts for newer ones (on Porsche's request), I overheard something with exhaust and fuel stuff (they were far, and I am not one for ease dropping).
