997 gt2 or scuderia

I am having an itch to switch my 08 gt2 to a scuderia. Pros: better sound track, exotic, rawness, and of course a ferrari. Cons: price delta, no manual, maintenance and repair costs, and attracting too much attention. What are you guys' thoughts? Especially from those have owned both. Thanks

Street/track %? How many miles you think you'll drive a year in it?

The only question that matters in this equation is the money variable. If you can swing it, you'll never regret it. Scuds are an absolute blast to drive, one of the best in my opinion. There a lot more bullet proof than they get credit for, though be prepared, interior is raw and loud, you'll hear every pebble in the wheel well. 2008's are looking very attractively priced too. FYI, in the event you were unaware, the headlight cluster is carbon fiber on the full carbon cars (all the 2009 and late 2008) and because its porous, condensation builds inside the headlights and there is nothing to my understanding that can be done. It's a small issue, but it kind of annoyed me. Good luck man.

Two totally different cars.... And two totally different prices. I've neve had a GT2 but I have had a turbo and a GT3... Went from 997.2 GT3 to Scud, which I have now.

The scud is on a different level. However, Houston is probably one of the most pointless cities to own one in (and I'm saying that as a Scud owner!)

I have a modified GT2 and have tracked it once and have put over 8k miles on it. Have tracked a SCUD twice. I agree with what you said on pros and cons, but to add to your cons lists is it is slower and does not handle as well. To add to your pros lists is throttle response is so instant and hyper, it feels like a wild animal leaping forward.

Scud is more raw and visceral than just about anything. GT2 is much faster, sharper handling, and more precise like a surgical instrument.

I'd keep the GT2. The new one will have electro-hydraulic steering and probably won't offer a manual transmission.

+1 If you're looking for a weekend toy (no track), then Scud is the way to go. You'll enjoy puttering around at legal speeds, whereas the GT2 is comparatively boring until you're at insane speeds (double the limit) on the street. Scud will also continue to depreciate slowly c/w the GT2.

Scud has pretty much hit the bottom of depreciation.

Besides the streets are not very good, is there any other cons for owing a scud in Houston? Can you elaborate?

My car is pretty much stock besides a tune and a hi flow cat. I love the way my car handles, but how is your car suspension w the rss set up compared to stock?

No understeer at all, much more precise than an already great stock setup. Little more tire noise but not a rougher ride quality. You can adjust the camber to make it even more direct but it will wear out the very expensive wheel quickly.
Car was transformed to a go-kart.

Only car I will consider trading in for is the MP4.

That's definitely a huge reason... Not only are the roads generally in horrible condition, there isn't a good "driving" road within 50 miles from downtown (I live inside the loop).

Another concern is the heat.... The engine bay of the scud is carbon fiber and has a tendency to yellow due to engine heat... You have to be careful and make sure to open the lid after every drive to aid in cooling. Combine that normal problem with the fact that my garage can reach 110+ in summer without a hot car in it....

Thanks for your inputs. These are very good points since houston summer is pretty much like a steam room. I didnt write any response on this thread because I have been doing research on ferrari chat and got really concerned about the repair costs especially those related to the F1 tranny. In one incident, one of the guys not only spent around 25k to fix it, he had his scud out of commission for months as well. What a nightmare! My gt2 has been very reliable, and I'm not sure if I can have the same peace of mind owning such incredible toy like the scud.

Take ferrari issues with a grain of salt. As long as you can find a well taken care of Scud with all maintenance records and good clutch life remaining, you should be ok. Between my dad and I, we have owned over 10 ferrari's in the past 8 years - both in and out of warranty - and experienced no issues whatsoever.
