Good morning,

I have a GT3 on order and I would like to get the Euro Sport seats; I'll buy them in Germany and have them shipped over. My question for anyone that has done that with an older GT3 is can you order the seat with red stitching?

Right now my order has red stitching for the car but if I cannot get that on the Euro seats I'll change my order.

Thanks

I’m with you. I’d like to get the sport buckets that are offered in early ROW cars with the red stitching. I contacted Carnewal in Europe and they expect to have these seats available for order but not yet (and no word on price).

Exact same position as OP. I'm guessing the stitching will be available, but at what additional cost (beyond insane parts dept seat cost)? Fingers crossed.

Any 997 owners deal with this and can comment?

The ROW sports buckets that are currently available are not DOT approved. That's why you can't get them stateside. I understand there is a DOT-approved version coming next year.

Why didn't they just put the 997 buckets in? Or do those not meet newer DOT requirements?

The ROW clubsport seats sure look like the 997 buckets... I'd be miffed if I wanted to order a 991 GT3 and couldn't get real track seats. Someone dropped the ball there.

It is my understanding that they do not. Moreover, with our DOT rules, the fact that a seat met standards in the 997 platform DOES NOT automatically mean it will meet standards in the 981 platform. It would have to be re-tested and re-certified.

Also, one other thing is the new 2014 DOT Rule that all cars sold in the US need to have "height-adjustable" seats (as a result of the European Pedestrian Safety Standards that forced the hood of the car -and the windshield- being raised (also the reason for 20+" wheels on many new sports cars...) and the "old" 997 carbon buckets like most racing seats are NOT height adjustable... It's a big mess and unfortunately we can not "vote" out these stupid Europeans in Brussels making up all these rules...And I guess, our US government doesn't want to make little people suffer...
The 991 GT3 will get a modified (cheaper!) version of the 918 seats next year, probably at the same time the announce an over-priced GT3 RS version.

Thanks. Not sure how a height-adjustable seat contributes to pedestrian safety, but OK. Can't you just have fixed seats that are mounted higher? Goofy laws...

Could someone post a link to what the euro sport seats are? Are these different than the US sport buckets? I drive a 997 in .eu with sport seats a month or so ago and I thought at first they were sport buckets since they looked the part, but they were comfy like the regular sport seats. So are those euro sport seats?

Maybe these can be seen in tequipment?

thanks

same problem for lesser models
My 991S is equipped with the sport seats plus. After a season of club DE events it has gotten to the point where my knees are barely adequate in keeping me in my seat. I want to move up to a harnesses which requires pass throughs in the seat backs but after reading this and other threads I don't see any current options available. I have a very skilled upholstery guy who has worked on a ton of older cars for me and he is willing to add pass throughs into the current seats. How many DOT regs am I breaking with this approach and is it a viable option?
