Gaining Interest in a GT3RS ........
Gaining Interest in a GT3RS ........
As an intro, I've never owned a Porsche before (well my dad had a 924 when I was in high school). I race in LotusCupUSA and absolutely love the marque and the philosophy of Lotus - add lightness. I DD an Exige S260 as I love the rawness and connection to the road. My weekend toy is a 16M, another raw car. So you get the idea.
I have my eye on an 08 GT3RS with 15k miles on it at CNC. It would be more of a DD and maybe some weekend canyon carving.

Thoughts on this car?
Any advice on what to look for when weeding out the RS's?

I'm not convinced the RS is a better car for DD and CC. Of your collection, it's also going to be the least raw car. That's not to say I don't think it's perfect -- for DD and CC the GT3 and RS should be *stellar*, my real point was don't limit yourself to just RSes because of a minimal performance benefit for that kind of driving.
I like the painted center console on that particular car.

My God a .1 RS for with that kind of mileage for a .2RS price.
Please do some more research before you pull the trigger. The .2 is a MUCH better car all around. More torque, short gearing, suspension and you may find a nice example in the mid 20s low 30s.
If you DD a Lotus you will be fine in anything you drive
Good luck

I was interested in the differences between the .1 and .2
Does the .2 have more HP as well? Are they direct injected? What year were the .2's - 10 and up?
The 997.2 GT3 is offered for 2010 and 2011 in the USA. The GT3 model has 435 crank hp and the RS model offers 450 crank hp. They are not direct fuel injected as they are the last of the Mezger flat 6 engine, which was replaced already in the Turbo in the year 2010 and the GT3 as of model year 2014.
Howdy and you've got great taste... I'm a bit concerned about that car having been monkeyd about with. I would insist on having all the stock parts though. Some stuff on there is hurting the car... It was likely a white and black decal car and they changed to orange wheels and decals which is fine.
I think you can find better and cheaper. The mk1 RS is more raw feeling than the mk2 but they made the mk2 a better road / daily driver if you will. Less movement and correcting and slightly less fidgety.
We've got guides that outline some of the differences as we've owned and lived with all the iterations of the gt3 over the last few years.

I would insist on driving both though. You will know which one fits you.
Ps the stereo install looks sloppy/lousy and doesn't belong in that car. Sub woofer makes me cry

High money for a .1. I would highly recommend a .2RS over it. You get all the things listed above and also the carbon fiber sport bucket seats. If that's something you'll want to do at some point for the occasional track day, that bridges the gap even further from .1RS to .2RS. If it matters, you'll be able to find a .2 still under warranty.
Best thing would be to drive both. That usually seals the deal.

That rs is over priced. .1 is more raw .2 is a little tiny bit faster and a little more refined. It comes down to budget. Unmolested low mile .2 should be about 130. Same for .1 about 95 give or take on both.
If you like raw get a .1 and spend the $ on a track tuned mono ball suspension and dampers. Throw a shark pipe or side muffler delete for some noise. I prefer recaros to the sport bucket myself for weight and comfort. Those also add to the feel of the car. Try to get a low or no options car to add to that rawness.
My .1 is loud and stuff and I could dd drive it.
If you want collectible hop to rennlist and checkout the perfect rs4 for 280k

How would I know if the orange was originally black?
The car also had an aftermarket cat back - it did sound nice.
I've heard stock exhaust is best though.
Would be nice to test a .2
OP: You can try what I've done in the past. Post here or on RL and trade test drives with one of your cars with a member who owns a .2. I've done this several times when making car buying decisions and as long as you're respectful it usually works out well for both. I've made some good friends that way too. Can't hurt to ask. I'd offer if you were closer to me.
