First time tracking 996gt3 ..handful
I had quite a humbling experience tracking my 996 gt3 for the first time at Calabogie last night. I sold my 75 carrera a while back but had it fairly well sorted and always confident tossing it around the track. I never gave so many point bys since starting out. Any pointers on suspension tuning. Car is at factory settings all around with Michelin pilot sport cups for track. Found throttle modulation was important and tire pressures after 15 minutes were up about 8lbs. Dropping that helped a lot to 32/39. Only one spin and hurt my pride a bit. I am thinking of softening up rear bar a bit. Great time regardless but I'm a rookie again it seems.
^ good advice! especially the alignment...the stock 996 GT3 does not hold its alignment well due to the eccentrics in the rear suspension...also check your drop links to the sway bars as the stock ones come loose easily....best changes I made that also improved rear tire wear even with more aggressive camber was locking plates on the eccentrics and solid monoballs in the rear
Thanks for advice so far. I'll look for a good alignment shop after checking above. Car came from po with kussomol settings but it was just wearing tires out way too quickly on the street. Dealer brought back to stock settings with a lot of pain. Forgot car had strut mounts that rotated and couldn't 't figure out why the couldn't get camber back to stock. They then raised rear height 10mm , saying it was out. I put about 3000-5000 street miles on car a year and plan on just a few track days,so street performance is key. I have slight inside tire wear now but track performance, not good
