Do you know why Ferraris dont depreciate as quick? NOBODY drives them- all the ferrari guys sit around and wring their hands over putting actual mileage on one!! Any ferrari with over 5000 miles is worthless.
SO you like buying half as much car for twice the price! we dont pick on you for it. Next time have some coffee and try to think of something original BEFORE you get close to the key board.
What a card!

CarPoint reported that the 911 had the highest resale value of any mass-manufacturer at 60% in 5 years.
They obviously did not include Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc.
Not sure where your bad-worse opinion is coming from Nick.

not only that, in this particular thread he is linking "luster" to resale value ("The marque has lost a great deal of its luster. The resale value of their cars is very bad and is getting worse.") ... but that is a incredibly simple explanation of resale values, there are far many more inputs than just that ... for example, if that was the case Porsche sales should be down even for new cars, which is not happening.

Yes I have a single message. No different from the single messages I read from Porschephiles who build shrines to the marque in their back yards while they get fleeced.

where do you get these #s showing:
1) 2005 sales are poor
2) 2004 sales were poor

As you wish. Funny how Porsche blames a drop in sales due to the storms. All those Porsche buyer's in the Superdome just could not find a way to get to their Porsche dealerships.

k, Sept. sales are down, but 2005 is still more than 2004 so the claim that "Porsche 2005 sales are down from 2004" is wrong.
Nick
Although I'd agree with you that the people buying Fords, Chevys and other such cars at "employee discount" rates are not the same ones buying Porsches, I think that in an uncertain economy people are less willing to spend money on non-necessities. That, I think, plays more of a role in the down month of September than "predatory pricing" of the American car manufacturers.
Still, looking at the numbers, 2005 > 2004, with the exception of Cayenne sales. However, the sales of ALL SUV's has declined with the increase of gas prices, so this is not some death knell for Porsche, at least no more so than for any other car manufacturer.
Generally, it's a good idea to post facts that support one's argument if you're trying to win that argument.

1. Porsche sales in 2004 were essentially 996's and 986's which they were trying to unload. Many discounts particularly with the 986. Thankfully, the Cayenne saved their bacon.
2. If I am not mistaken, in 2004 their sport car sales were off 30% but sales of all vehicles held its own compared to 2003 again the Cayenne saving they fiscal year.
3. In late 2004 the 997 was introduced and somewhat later the 987. In early 2005, the 997 cab. and other variants were introduced.
4. So you have FOUR NEW MODELS for 2005 and yet they are having difficulty increasing sales over what they did with models which were being phased out.
Porsche sales are off no matter which way you which to analysis it. And for them to attribute poor sales of the Cayenne because of storms is disingenuous. Porsche buyers do not concern themselves with gas prices. Something else is at work here and Porsche is well aware of it.
CGT values are going to keep dropping until they are sold out. Period.
However, I personally think it will hold up pretty well once we get about 5 years out. It is the F40 of Porsches. I don't think we are going to see another one like it.
Will it ever start to climb again? Who knows. Exotic car market is VERY different nowadays -- more people making better cars all along. Think about the McClaren F1 -- and how long it was before anyone made a super car after that.
Nowadays we get new "supercars" every year or two. Think about it -- Enzo, CGT, Pagani, SLR in he last 3 years alone!
