Drove a 997 S tonite

I drove 2thfxrs 997 tonite. First 997 that I have driven. What a nice car. All Porsche All well done. I didnt doubt that this would be a nice car and it was. It does everything well. The exhaust note was thrilling(sport exhaust). The handling superb! If you have to have a daily driver and a potent track weapon this might be it. What blew me away though was getting back into my car. OMG!! The GT3 is a race car!! thats what it is! its a race car that is street legal!( I knew this but I forgot how much so) so flipping raw so precisely executed. So what was my decision? own both. thats the only solution. Niether one can take the place of the other.
What great examples of two different cars. The GT3 is an example of car that is steeped in Porsches Track exploits over the years. The 997 is an example of a car that is confident on what the Marque was and where its going.

Met Oldguy for a nice chat over a couple of cold ones..... BTW - he is not old. His GT3 is the nicest and most highly equipped GT3 I have ever seen. It has almost every conceivable option including all the carbon fiber and guards red painted goodies. That being said, his car is a pure racecar. The Manthey kit is incredible. It pulls like a turbo. In fact, it pulls just as hard as a Gallardo. This thing is downright beastly. The difference between his car and mine is like night and day. His is definitely not a daily driver, everything from ride height, ride stiffness, rollcage, GT3 seats, power, etc etc to the heavy heavy clutch. This thing belongs on a track. My car feels like a luxury car compared to his. Seeing that 8200 RPM redline was a bit wierd too! I think the GT3 is definitely what Porsches are all about.

Oldguy's comparison between the two cars reminded me of driving a 996TT and than the GT2 (which I bought), day and night differences when stock.
Havent driven the 997 yet looks to be a real nice Porsche, love the interior. Everyone I have talked to praise the car, 2thfxr good luck and enjoy !

Funny thing is that I never understood the appeal of the GT3 until I drove Oldguy's. Prior to driving his car, I always wondered why a GT3 when there is the TT with more hp and wider rubber etc etc. Now I realize what it is. The damn thing is a GT3Cup car with license plates. Paul even pulled out his oil dipstick and showed me how the ring actually says "GT3 CUP" on it. Same engine but at some point some go into street cars, and others go into full spec race cars. It's not meant for the street and it's not even meant to be used as a dual purpose car. It is a track car and if you want a track car, it's the perfect track car. I would have to say that anything more than a GT3 is downright insane. The GT2 must be for a driver with true skills.

Old guy is right. Every car is made for a reason. THe 997 is better than the "regular: 911s from the earlier years. The 997 GT3 will have to have performance improvements over the current GT3.
The GT3 is a fun car no matter where you are other than a dirt road chasing the General Lee. It like any car can be improved upon out of the factory. The LWFW is unbelievable. Old Guy. If you have not had that done, do not wait another minute. Have Austin order the Sach's Cup Car stuff. First and second will be blinding

I was going to do the LWC and FW....But I spoke to the Porsche Mech that does all my warranty work and has worked on my 911s for years. along with a performance shop that sets my car up for the track and a high end tuner.

All said it would not be a big difference in lap times, the said sure it will rev faster, but it would not make a 10th in excelleration times or a second on the track?????????

I was ready for it untill I spoke with them. I'd sure like to drive one and see for myself

I played in a golf tournament in LA last Monday and the clubs fit in the front seat of a GT3 perfectly. I got to the CC and they parked me right in front like a show car.
Live 150 miles away one way and it was just a pleasure driving it there and back.
Driving a GT3 on the street is like going to a knife fight with a 50cal machine gun. And the drive was just a drive, not a track event. what a pleasure.

I agree. I have driven Rolo's GT3 and it feels as stiff as my turbo with pss9 but better sways and better damped. Might bbe harsh on new york roads but butery smooth here on Georgia asphalt. Not a daily trip car but not track only either.

What is it about the GT3 hat makes it not a daily driver? I guess if one is in rush hour trafic every day. I do not need to commute during peak hours. I do drive it every day and enjoy most every moment. I can not go into my garage and pick a different car.

I feel that way in the TT. Traffic only needs to open for a split second and you're in and out. I'm sure we must look like we're taking chances on the road, when in fact we're holding back.
