997.1 vs 997.2 vs 991 (GT3 and GT3RS)
I'm starting to seriously look at GT3s and the idea of purchasing one in 2016. The market for them has been all over the place the last few years and just wanted to start a conversation to get feedback and opinions from members that own/have owned any/all of these cars.
It seems like the 997.1 prices that they are selling at has settled around $90k (wish I had bought one during the recession for $70k). The 997.1 GT3RS's are around $175k+ which is more than the 997.2 GT3RS. Why is that? It seems like the 997.2 RS is a better car than the 997.1 but is about $25k less and around the same price as the 991 GT3s. The 991GT3RS is a whole different story that is far out of the question.
With that said, looking for feedback on which one(s) are worth considering. I'd be looking for a fun car that I can enjoy driving a few thousand miles a year and not lose my a$$ like a lot of other German cars.
Thanks in advance for feedback!

i have them all.
u asked a Q that will take weeks to answer.
but quickly 7.1 RS in NOT more $ than 7.2RS. only the green one's are. color makes a big difference in these cars. a white 72 and a white 7.1 with equal cond etc. the .2 will always cost more.
they do not drive the same. some prefer .1 others like .2

If you're looking for a car to drive and put mileage on, I'd recommend the 991.1 GT3 followed closely by the 997.1 GT3. In both cases, you should lose little, if any, of your original expense to purchase. The RS price premium erodes fast with mileage so you'll likely take a big hit as you pile on the miles if you go the RS route.

all of the above replies are spot on as I was on the same boat when I was searching for my GT3. On the monetary logical side, it was hard for me to digest how a 997.2 GT3 was not too far off from the 991 GT3 in terms of pricing. and what is there not to like about the 991 GT3? PDK lighting fast shifts, modern chassis with warranty and all the modern amenities that make it awesome for daily driver/ weekend warrior. Even after all those compliments, I still chose a 997.2 GT3 haha. And judging from your picture, I remember your car as you were a multiple S2000 owner. I owned 3 prior, including a CR, and the 997.2 embodied what I liked so much about buying that car multiple times. Why I opted for .2 besides .1? besides all the technical aspects of improvement from a later chassis development, it came down down to 1) disliked majority of the 997.1 came with sunroofs 2) led enhancements make it seem less dated. To me, it had the nimble chassis balance of the lightweight S2000 with the monster high revving engine that I had in my E92 M3. Mash those two cars up and that is the feeling I get every time I take my GT3 out for a drive. Good Luck with your decision!
