GT2 beats a C6 ZO6

Probabky has something to do that they were built on diff. designs, where the Porsche was made according to one mans dream and the vette according to demographics and the land they were designed to run in where the highway speed limit was never more than 75mph.
It isnt until the C5 version that the Corvette started to evolve and get into the sports car category (with the exception of the muscle car era).
When the USA was worried about being PC and giving us the C4 version the rest of the sports car world still made sports cars that had power, poise, and speed. So me buying and loving my Porsche goes way beyond the fact the dream of actually getting my GT2 it comes from respect and a lifelong dream of having a car that has since its introduction continued to awe the world with its brand.
I dont care if the Z06 is faster than my GT2 honestly it doesnt matter to me.
My car is what I want it to be and no $85k Chevy will ever change that.
Have they come a long way? Sure they have good for them, way more to go to catch up at the Porsche brand is my thinking. There are a lot of cars that you can buy and mod to beat the Vette at the drag strip and the race course for way under its price, in todays world anything is possible.
So being that I am on a Porsche forum and "defending" as many like to call it my brand, that is OK with me, I dont go to the Vette forums and preach about my car as that would be childish to me.
Oh yeah and to all a very merry x-mas may Santa bring everyone plenty of Mods.

I found this post on another board?
Hi, I'm a big lurker here and a Corvette lover BUT more importantly a car enthusiast FIRST. So that's why I check in on the BMW forum! I post more in OT...
Mine: 2005 C6 Corvette 6-Speed, Z51 package, black
His: 200x (?) E46 M3, 6-speed, silver
He pulled in a parking spot near me at a liquor store, I said "nice car" and he said the same back. His car was looking awesome. I love the exhaust and rear lip spoiler on the M3.
We both left the liquor store and I guess his route home was the same as mine. He was following right behind me.
A stop light on the road went red and we were side-by-side. I looked over but he seemed pre-occupied with something in his car, so I figured no race. So as the light turned, I didn't take off like a bat out of hell... I definitely gave it some gas to see if he was game, but was assuming he wouldn't be.
He took off even with me, and then gunned it! I heard the roar of the I-6 next to me (very cool). He was starting to pass me just as I was short-shifting into 2nd (d'oh!). I was shocked, didn't expect him to be up for it! I gave him a surprised look as we were side by side, and gunned it in 2nd so as not to lose him. Gunning it in 2nd prevented me from getting blown away, and we were literally side-by-side at this point. I was mad I didn't run 1st out.
He was slowly inching away as we worked up to 50. As I started to hit the engine's sweet spot in 2nd, I reeled him back in, and when I upshifted to 3rd at about 65 MPH, I was starting to walk him up to 85-90 MPH. As soon as I hit 90 I hit the brakes. I think his front bumper was just off of my rear bumper, maybe he was further back, I'm not sure. He definitely was not beside me anymore. I was focusing on the road ahead. He slowed a little but went roaring by and maintained about 80 MPH on a 55 limit road. I once saw a biker get killed on the very road we were on so I decided against a 100+ run, but I sped up a little after braking to catch him and give him a thumbs up.
After we caught up, he rolled his window down and said, "400 hp?"
"Yup."
"I have 333, but it's light and geared well!"
I gave him a smile and a thumbs up, and that was that.

I didn't want to tell this story, but after this quote I feel I must. This past Saturday, I was coming home from Solomons Island (Southern Maryland) and as you leave, you get on this long entrance ramp that loops around onto Route 4 south. Well, just ahead of me was a yellow Z06, looked like an 04' with a very loud exhaust, chrome wheels, the works. When he saw me in the rear view mirror, he revved his engine and pulled away abruptly. As we went over the bridge, he did it again.
When we approached the traffic signal for Route 6 north, I thought to myself, "If he makes a right, the race is on." The traffic intersection has it's own turning lane that's protected by a median, so your free to let her rip. The whole time before we hit that intersection I was thinking, "This was going to be a close race." When he reached the intersection, he immediately stomped on the accelerater and took off. I was right behind him and down shifted into second and to my mild suprise, I passed him with ease and I continued to increase my distance to about two car lengths, when I saw in my side view mirror that after I blew by him, he had given up. You could tell by the noise of his exhuast/headers that he was absolutely running the car to the redline and just did not have the power to keep up.
I must say I was a little suprised. What I noticed was that when he had to shift, I was still in gear accelerating. That made a world of difference. My car kept pulling and his would die and then he would have to shift. He pulled up beside me at the traffic light, which was about a mile from the beginning of the race, where we exchanged compliments on each others cars and warned each other about the police in the area. When the light turned green, we took off again and right at the start, I had him by a good car length and I kept pulling away. I got about a 2 car length lead and he again backed off. I continued to 135 mph and he disappeared in my rear view mirror.
Just goes to show that real life experience and magazine articles are never quite the same. By the way, I had the wife with me, she weighs 130lbs. He was alone.

The C6 Z06 is faster than a GT2
I tangled against a new Z06 the other day and was defeated. It didn't beat me too badly, but clearly pulled on me up to 140. Impressive for a $70k sports car, but it is still no GT2.
After what I experienced, I know for sure there is no way the GT2 that killed the Z06 by 10 cars was anywhere close to stock, not a chance. It was highly modded in my opinion.
Just an FYI guys, those Z06s are real fast.

LOL. why is it so hard to believe that the Z06 is fast? George's right. stock GT2 can not dump the stock Z by 10 cars no way. however, ur GT3 is a different story though...
Wow! This is still going on??? Why is this so important?
Well, I currently have both an 06 M5 and an 06 Z06. Both stock. Just sold my 04 996TT cab stage 2.
My Z06 is so much faster that it would not even be in the time zone as the M5 if they raced (straights, corners, you name it). With The 996TT, it would be in the same time zone but still clearly behind, especailly after 80mph. You can't beat the 6.2 hp/lb fact, assuming 505 is real hp on the Z06. So far all the dynos i have seen are in the 440 to 470 rwhp range which seems to indicate that it may be putting out more than the claimed 505hp.

Well said Terrence
I am sure my factory Ruf car is faster than my 06 Z06. Off the line the 06 Z06 may be close. I am curious to measure and we shall do just that the next time I have both cars together in Nevada.Maybe line up and let it go until the Z car slows down somewhere around 190 (?).
