GT2: How to improve the factory stereo?
I know the GT2 is probably one of the worst mobile environments for a stereo due to the limited sound deadening from the factory, however I still would like to improve on it.
I want to keep the factory CD head unit, but want to retrofit higher quality speakers and possibly add a CD changer. I don't want high-end speakers, since I won't get most of their benefit given my existing CD player and high ambient noise.
What have you guys done in your GT2/3's to improve the sound? Is there are factory CD changer option?
Thanks.

I looked into having the factory changer installed into my GT2, but the dealer I got it from said it was not pre-wired from the factory and that they would have to run the cables for it. I opted not to have them rip up my car trying to install it.
There are four speaker locations, each of which I believe has a 4" woofer with matching tweeter. If you have a car with the fiber optic radio I do not know how feasible it is to replace the factory amp. I suspect the amp is a big part of the problem with the GT2's stereo.
I'd be interested what some others have come up with as far as replacing the factory components. Adding big amps and subwoofers would ruin the car.

How do I know if my CD uses fiber optics? I also assumed the CD player was an amplified receiver not just a pre out CD tuner. I have not looked at my manual; any idea how much clean RMS the amp puts out?

Reus Stereo can give you a great system. However if you are not in S. Calif. where they are and don't want to fly them out. Then you can simply replace your speakers with much better ones (many options exist) and add a good amp and subwoofer (and an amp for it). Have the amps and subwoofers put up front and wired with quick release plugs and mounting, so they can be removed on track days.
You won't get great sound due to no sound proofing in the car. But you can certainly improve on what you have.

I think the GT2 and 3 are similar with the systems.
JL is sending me what they think is the best low key system for the 996.
I will post the speakers size/style, wires and what amp they send me.
If it's fiber optics you will have trouble with the amp if you do one.
best to replace the head unit. Otherwise its just speaker sizes.

Curious to see what the JL setup is...I need to improve the 996tt a little. I'm planning to do a new head unit though, something that allows me to hardwire the iPod. Plus $1000 or 2 for new speakers and an amp to run them.
Basically JL is sending me 4 speakers, I assume they are 4 inchers. Also a 300/4 AMP. I will get the Alpine XM and changer.
Also the new JL wires.
I like to listen to the car too, but the stock system is retarded.
