Little help_opinions

I have a 2006 3.6 997 6 speed with 2300 miles. I like the car but when I bought it there wasn't a S available. I have always regretted not waiting the extra two weeks for the S to show up.
Today I saw two Porsches that I would love to have. One was a 2005 GT3 and the other was a 2004 Turbo cab. Both cars are as new.
I have had a 2001 Turbo coupe so I have an idea of what the Turbo is. I have never even ridden in a GT3.
For those who own a GT3 could you briefly enlighten me as the pluses and negatives of the GT3. I know the electronic assists are absent from this car and driving the car takes consentration, and I have read where its a race car on the streets. I consider myself a decent driver, but not really good. I would not ever track the car, but it wouldn't be a garage queen either.
The GT3 has the ceramics brakes, 2000 miles showing and the previous owner traded it in on a CGT.

Any information would really be appreciated.
BTW asking price is 105,000 and the car is PERFECT.

Hi Doc, if you will use it only as a street car, you won't like it as much as your 997. It is an unbelievably satisfying car, but with limited street appeal. It is raw, and wonderfully so.
Prices on GT3's are in the mid to high 80's for a car with a few thousand miles on them.
You may want to change your mind about tracking your Porsches, a good DE will blow your mind.
My suggestion is to order a 997S and enjoy your car until it arrives!

If I had too, I think I could drive my 3 daily. I believe it would get old after a while, but it really not all that bad. No worse than my 993 C4S.

That said, I have never driven a car that is more fun, it puts a smile on my face every single time I get in it. I have driven TTs, Vettes's Vipers, Lotus, etc......all very nice cars. I wouldn't trade my three for any of them. I'm keeping it. I believe it really is a modern day classic. Its an absolutely super car.

Thanks Paul and Rolo I respect your opinions. The GT3 would be my " special day car". I know me; I get up every morning at 4-4:30 and I would be out driving the 3 before the traffic gets unmanageable. I am retired but never grew up. I have always loved cars since I was 10 years old, 52 years ago. I doubt if the 3 would ever see track time, but then again I need a hobby. Even if I could pick-up some 20 years old hardbodies I think I have forgotten what to do next...who gets tied up??

Then Doc, you may be a GT3 guy. It is without a doubt the best car I've ever owned, and I've had the TT, the E55, M5, M3, blah blah...
It is incredibly fun to drive! See if you can get a back to back test drive with the 3 and a C2S, and let us know what you think.
Trust me, join PCA and try a Driving Experience. Or go to Porsche's Driving School and drive their cars, instead of your own.
(caution, it's very addicting!)

Re: the hardbodies, don't let them tie you up, they'll steal your P-car

Doc K,
retired & need a hobby, best time to join Jack's group. better than picking up some 20 years old hardbodies in certain way. Paul knows it.

the GT3 is my favorite 996. i had C4S, Turbo, GT2. it's the closest experience to CGT besides the speed. i had chance to drive few 997 C2S for days i can tell u it's a nice daily car but it's no way nearly as fun as the GT3. i've never had a chance to take the 3 on track but i found it's very rewarding to drive on the street, just not in traffic. only concern is the roads in LA suck so the ride is always bumpy. the suspension on the GT3 is way harsher compare to 997s. both cars are awesome but to sum it up do u want a ''raw'' or a ''refined'' car?

vincentdds,
At my age this may be my last Porsche. I think the 996 GT3 will be all I'll ever need as far as performance and being exclusive. I'm still working on the owner as far as price, but we should come to a yea or nea this afternoon.

I am sure you'll be just as happy with a either GT3.
BTW, how do you like your Tubi exhaust?
I have been trying get a hold of Champion Motorsport but they would not get back to me.

Vincent
Bought the 3 today at 2:00 and drove the 30 miles to my home in heavy freeway traffic, then about 7 miles on edgy street surfaces. The car rides like a Lexus compared to my old Corvette and Pantera. I was expecting much worse. It was a hard decision to make but I knew within 5 miles it was the right choice for me. So far I am very satisfied with the car. Give me a month or so and I will be in a better position to voice my educated opinions. I know you should never underestimate the GT3, and I'll try my best to keep that fact in my mind.

PS:
Today was the first time I have ever listened to my Tubis from outside of the 997. I strongly suggest you listen to them in person before you buy them.

Doc
Congrat on the 3. As a rule on this forum you have got to post pics of your new ride so we can drool over it.

Doc,
Come join us for a private track day -- plenty of old farts (who never grew up) in the group. Tracking your new GT3 is much better than sex.

BTW, congrats on the new car!

Paul,
We miss you -- how about coming out on the 2nd....pretty please.

Hearty congratulations to you Doc! Take Jack up on his offer, it is the best way to enjoy the car. We're a very safe bunch.
Thanks Jack, I miss the guys and the adrenaline rush, not to mention the weather. I'll be there!
