Detailing question

I'm thinking about buying an electric leaf blower to assist me in drying/dusting my black GT3, My paint is almost flawless and I want to avoid the fine mini-scratches associated with using good micro-fibre towels to dry the car.

Any comments appreciated.

TIA

do it!

That's what I use to dry all my cars and I love it. I have done this for several years with no problem. I do dry mine in a big garage, so I don't have to worry about picking up trash from the ground and blowing it into the car.
I used a gas blower first, but that about killed me since I was in a garage, then I changed to an electric and all is great.

Good luck,
Chuck

Add me to that list. I use my blower . Works great. I would like to get an air compresser with higher power though.

I've wondered about using my compressor, but I notice that there is water and some sort of dirt that gets in the system. Is there a filtering device that can be used with the compressor??

NO problem with thier towels on black cars... check out the microfiber drying towel

Or if you don't want to worry about it at all check out a water purifier

Try taking it for a spin Doc. With all the cars we detail, we have found taking the car for a DryRun does the trick. Drive appox. 45-50 mph for about 2-3 miles, maybe longer depending on the humidity and sun condition. As for any road dirt that is picked up, here are the steps to follow. Once back from the run, gently dust the surface using a natural wool duster. Then spray the finish down generously using a carnauba spray such as Zymöl Detail spray or Meguiar’s Final Inspection, since neither contain any silicone. Then, go over the finish again for the final touch up using a liquid carnauba spray such as Zymöl’s Field Glaze. It saves a lot of time and more importantly, you can drive the car immediately. One of my pet peeves is the water marks that drag along the side of the car from mirrors. When we finish a car, the client can drive away and not worry about any water dragging along the side of doors or anywhere else. Hope this helps. BTW, in case anyone is wondering, we carry a $250K per vehicle liability and a $1Million umbrella in case of accident. Hope this helps.

Water purifier is awesome, just use it to rinse the car when done...and the synthetic Griots towels are the best. I still use a compressor with a filter on it for the mirrors, etc. A california squeege works for a start, great on glass.

And don't put the car away after a bath, still run around the block...otherwise you'll get the sticky brake rotor thing.

I've seen pictures of Moe's work...truly awesome !
I bought an electric Toro blower yesterday and I'll try it (on my wife's 987) later this week.
Thanks guys for the comments.

I think there should be a Sticky for Mo where he can post pictures of his work. That would be fantastic. I don't know about everyone else, but I like seeing cars "in the wild" instead of at photoshoots; and with Mo's final results it would just be a great thread. Good work Mo .

Leaf blowers are great, I got one for my father a few years back.

I sheet most of the water off during my final rinse down, if the car is in good shape it just falls right off

I picked up one of these bad boys a few weeks ago and have had good luck with it so far:
http://www.blackanddecker.com/Produc...ProductID=6462

It is not a 200mph setup but it is cordless and seems to do a great job.
My detailer uses one of the toro setups but I just dont like the cords.
I tried my gas blower that I use on the lawn and it worked well but stinks up the garage pretty bad.

Here is my detailers list FYI:
http://www.zainomobiledetail.com/150detail.html

It doesnt list the model of blower he uses but I am pretty sure that it is this one:
http://www.toro.com/home/yardtools/b...acs/51598.html

Ahh the fun of owning a black car........

Well I tried my new leaf blower yesterday afternoon and it worked great. I need to work on my technique a little but the car came out spotless.
Still needed to use micro fiber towels in a few spots...door jams and under the tail but I'm satisfied.
Also I had a chance to check the gas milage for the first time. Combined milage was 19.9....I was amazed. My 997 barely made 17 mpg with basically identical driving scenarios

Air compressors do spew out some oil, so beware. Electric leaf blowers work wonderfully, especially on a well waxed car, even better on a Zaino'd car.
