I rather own a Porsche.
I'd rather own a Porsche.
I've owned several Porsches before including, 79 911SC, 91 911Turbo 3.6, 93 993 Carrera, 02 Carrera2 and now a 03 GT2.
I have always been a Porsche fan, but decided to try a few Italian exotics....
including two Gallardos and a Ferrari CS.My experience with them has not been that great. Let me share with some of you my thoughts.
If you want to make your car an occasional track car, Porsche is definitely a great choice. Most Porsche owners can accept their cars being driven hard at time on a race track, as they are built to endure the stress induced on the cars when they are driven near the limits. I guess all cars have gone through some degree of testing on race tracks.... irrelevant of its make and horsepower.
I recently tried to sell a Ferrari Challenge Stradale. Ferrari advertised this car on its website as a car for the street and the track. The car is even equipped with a fire extinguisher! Yet, a Ferrari dealer as buyer of the car, made it sound like a sin to track the Ferrari. First question and the most common one is, "has the car been tracked?". How hard did you drive the car? "
I asked him, am I suppose to just park the car in my garage and look at it?
You can put a bad driver in a Ferrari and ruin it on the street in no time. On the other hand, a good driver who tracks their cars occasionally won't damage or harm a car!
It is pretty obivous Ferrari has established a great name in racing, but yet most Ferrari owners baby their cars so much that they are not really using these cars to its full potential. Porsche owners , on the contrary, are a lot more track concious. I guess that's why POC has been so successful. Anyway, that's just my observation.
I love driving and tracking my cars and I am glad to be a Porsche owner again and I doubt I will buy another Ferrari again!!

From spending time here in the forums and reading most of the posts here, I definitely agree that Porsches are more capable of being track cars. They are more bullet proof and the servicing costs and relatively less...
I guess that the Ferrari dealer just wanna take advantage of someone who has tracked a car and make them think that it lowers the value. Yeah, it's kinda wrong to tell the customers that it's a track and make you feel bad if you do it or something.

If one CS was never tracked, and babied by the owner, and another CS was repeatedly tracked hard like they were "meant" to be driven, which one would be more desirable to you if you were the buyer? Similarly, if you were in the market for a GT2, would you prefer to buy an example that was tracked hard like they were "meant" to be driven?
Problem is we can never 100% guarantee these cars are tracked or not!
To me as a buyer, I don't mind as long as the seller is honest and the car has never been hit.

Kalvin, glad you chose the GT2. Now lets see how it can reward you on the street / track.

Thanks , Vincent..... I am enjoying every second of my GT2 ownership.

Most ferrari owners are in it for the badge of wealth, and pretty much to show off. Half will prob just drive it down rodeo drive and put back in the garage. But these are speculations and I'm sure there are real fans out there.(prob to poor to buy them though)
I'm also curious to hear how it did on track. Do you like the LC?

I am glad this is not a Ferrari board!

That's exactly what I meant. Good drivers will be able to keep the car free of any problems regardless where they drive the cars..... the bad ones can ruin
a car in less than a day! That's why beware of DEMOS!
That's a bit ridiculous ... have to admit I was expecting a hands on comparison of the cars.
Of course the buyer asks if the car has been tracked. You can be sure that when I start looking for a P-car, it will be my first question! Every second hand buyer wants a babied car ... only to beat the crap out of it!
ExtinctM3, I think your statement doesn't hold water if we're talking 360CS. Modena, yes, without a doubt, the majority of owners are just poseurs in it for the status. But the CS? That's an enthusiast's car! I'm pretty sure there are little to no poseurs driving a CS.
