Wow, it's all coming back to me.....The horror! He drove by cover of night. Put socks in our motors.(if any of you catch that then, ) And drove off throwing dirt in our faces heel toeing like a mad man.

 

No room for error there. One off track excursion would take out 20 people. Watching his footwork makes you appreciate the human brain. Damn!

never mind that he was one-time world rally champion (that means squat in the 'States I know). EVERY recent porsche, from the 996 to the Carrera GT to the Cayman and now to the 997's, drive as they do because of him.

As Porsche's chief test driver, he tests all the cars himself on the Nurburgring, and no car is approved for final production without his sign-off.

I've had the distinct pleasure of meeting the man, and actually riding with him as he caned a 997 C4S at that car's press launch in Italy last year. Un-f*cking-believable.

 

Can you imagine how many lawsuits would stem from this type of race in the US. Those onlookers standing right next to the track are not too tightly wrapped. Of course there were the idiots standing on the track to get a better view of the cars. I know if I were driving there would be maimed bodies all over the place, including the hood of my car.
