FWIW, the Yellow Corvette displaying the subject license plate frame is NOT a ZO6 . . . it is a C6. I have seen the car twice . . . both times before the ZO6 was introduced. The following is my response the the same thread in the 996TT section:

Yes, unfortunately I am very familiar with this CxxK Smoker. I first encountered him on the 101 freeway driving a Viper with the same license plate frame. I offered up my car for “smoking,” but this ***-wipe refused to back up his bravado and wussed out. I posted about the encounter here on 6Speed. Those of you who were around at the time will recall that former 6Speed member Matt Fresh went over to Viper Alley and posted there that all Viper owners have mullets and are married to their sister. That did not go over well, and a couple of the Viper owners made minced meat out of Fresh. One particular Viper owner posted some of the finest composition I have ever seen on any internet forum.

Over a year later, I ran into this ***-clown at a EuroSunday event. He had traded in his Viper for a Yellow C6, and he had the same license plate frame. We had a few words, and I again offered up my car for “smoking,” but he again whimpered away like an embarrassed little boy who had just crapped in his diaper.

Bottom line: This CxxK Smoker is a coward who cannot back-up his bombastic pretext. A stock 996TT/997TT would own his C6 (http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html ), and he knows it, but he nevertheless continues to display his demonstrably false hyperbole. So be it.

Craig

Anyway this C6 guy is a clown and I have beat a new Vert C6 on the 73 toll road, it was close though..I think his top down and his GF screaming at 150 mph had something to do with it.

It's pretty typical of BMW owners to try to bash Porsche any chance they get.
it's part of their own inferiority complex.
Happens all day long to me on BWM forums.
We do have a 600hp M3, so I visit them.
They find it funny that the Z06 can spank (or by the benchracers extreme knowledge in the mater) the GT2.
The GT2 was made in 02 and is a benchmark for performance, if people can catch up to it 4 years later thats fine, and I mean catch up not surpass.
If the money thing and value is an issue, people fail to see that the GT class Porsche owners could buy Z06's if they wanted too. I am sad to inform then that the Porsche guys are not sad that the Amrecian car is uber fast.
I think the majoraty of them would not be caught dead in an American car, some might but whatever.
It seems to me the Porsche crowd generally is impressed with the Z06.
The Z06 crowd is generally unimpressed with Porsche and trys to bash them.
It's kind of a one way street.
At the end of the day personally I would not be caught dead in a Z06.
I respect the car and as an American I find it kind of cool that GM can spit out a 70K car that kicks ***.
The GT3 is more car than I can handle and is teaching me how to drive and respect the car.
That's a real life lesson.
The Z06 is a mash monster and I am sure if I wanted to be a dick waving gear head, I could be.
It's all personal preference.

Vader I think they missed the point the first time you tried to explain it to them....we could have bought a Z06 but opted for the complete package. There are tons of 9-10sec mustangs that can be had for 20k that will make a new Z06 seem slow, does that mean there is a line of people trading in their Z06s for those fast mustangs...NO! Same thing with the GT3 and the Z06. I considered one, but it lacks so so so so much that the porsche offers.

05997S: how often do you track cars???? Acceleration and brute force does not account for everything. Yes the Z06 was fast aroudn the nurburgring, it was very fast, but there are a couple things you need to take into account...first the ring is a hp friendly car. There are some places there where if you have power you make up GOBS of time. Secondly they had a test driver pusing that car for a long long long time to get those times. In the hands of 99.999999% of people the Z06 makes a poor track car. Why??? because it is not put together like a porsche. Attention to detail is missing(ex: the roof flying off, brake rotor issues, etc etc). I have driven Z06s (C5s) on the track and they are fast and a great bang for the buck, but you will NEVER see me trade a p-car in for one, EVER!!! I have also driven all different cars from vipers, to corevettes, bmws(i owned two, tracked one), mustangs, etc etc on the track and there is not a single brand that builds a car that does the whole performance thing as well as porsche does all around. A while back they did a test between the GT3, a Z06, and a Lancer EVO RS around Infenion Raceway and Kevin Buckler (The Racer's Group) made the comment that the C5 Z06 is a great car to drive, but after you push it over 8/10ths is becomes SCARY whereas the other two cars are a lot more comforting to drive at speed. The confidence you have while tracking a porsche is unmatched in my opinion and I do not care how fast that Z06 goes in the 1/4 mile, if you gave me the option to have a Z06 or any new porsche I would instantly hop in the porsche! I give props to GM for making the beast, but it is no GT3 and never will be, EVER!

I don't understand the impetus for the brand-VS-brand debates. If you're into sports cars, driving, modifying, automotive design and engineering, then you're into leading-edge cars of many kinds and relate to other car guys that are similar. If you're only into one brand of car, it's like being a wine-lover but only appreciating the fruits from one vineyard and scoffing at followers of other vineyards. Am I missing something?

I love Porsches, always have. I also appreciate other cars, and the majority of serious car friends I have own and enjoy many different sports cars. They may have an overall favorite for one reason or another, but in general, they derive enjoyment from automobiles from many origins.

That is a very very good point. I think the whole roof thing is all in good fun. But I really get tired of the Z06 people saying trade in your p-cars for the new Z06 because it ran 11.5 in the 1/4mile. I respect everyone into cars. Those who spend money to mod their honda all the way to the guy with the Mclaren. Everyone has a common love for cars and you are 100%!
one rep point for you

Rep points for both of you.
Anyway, the real issue with the Z06 battle is for the Turbo guys.
US GT3 guys are in a class with only a few others.
FCS and ..I dunno inform me.
The Z06 guys are straight line guys for the most part and alot of the turbo guys are too.
So they can fight the battle while we enjoi raping everyone in the twisties.

I think it's pretty damned exciting that in addition to the GT3 and 360CS, other manufacturers continue to pursue some pretty capable sports cars for the street as well. I like seeing the competitiveness in the marketplace. It makes for some really good choices for car guys on the street. And how cool is it to see a more diverse crowd of cars on the track that can lay down serious displays of performance?

Compare many of the bone-stock sports cars to legendary cars from years past, and it's very clear that the sports car segment is really coming back to life, maybe bigger than it ever has been. I was a little worried in the 80's and early 90's. Now it seems everyone wants a piece of the sports car scene. And sports car racing in the US is getting more popular again (now, if only more manufacturers would dive in with production-based racers instead of just letting prototypes get all the airtime). Amidst all of the little funny-looking hybrids and shoe-shaped people-movers getting pumped out, there is still a bright fire burning for us sports car lovers. Very cool time to be around to drive.

And I agree, the GT3 has set the bar VERY high for streetable sports cars. While the Cayenne pays the bills, hats off to Porsche for keeping its roots intact.

I have driven an '04 Z06, not the new one. I drove it for an entire day. I would describe it as a very fast tractor. You cannot feel the road, the front end in totally numb. The gear shifting felt like you were shifting a tractor trailer, it rattled and squeaked like it was going to fall apart. The brake feel was numb. You don't know what the car is going to do when you push it to the limit, it gives you no feedback. The fit and finish was, well do I have to elaborate on this one? I have never looked at or ever considered any of the previous model vettes, this new one does stimulate my curiosity though. In the end, the benchmark that GM used to build their latest bruiser was Porsche and as far as I'm concerned Porsche is still the benchmark.

Paul S is infamous around these parts
Good for him. Those who are offended by a LICENSE PLATE FRAME get over it. I don't drive a car to give me status, I drive it because it's fun and meets my needs.
I really can't stand Porsche (or any other marque) snobbery. Remember, some F-car guy somewhere is saying the same about you right now.
I'd love to drive the ZO6, I just haven't had the chance yet.

Not snobbery at all, this thread topic begs to be flamed.
Anyway, Just got off an afternoon PCH roll.
I saw about 50 Vettes and 4 Porsches.
No GT3's or 2's couple Bentleys.
A few Vipers, Lambos and F cars.
Good times..
