Anyway that Z06 is pretty embarrassing. I wonder what the redneck, whoops I mean driver looks like.

If you compare a race driver's (Jan Magnussen) time in a Z06 to the times that are made by a German car magazine journalist (Horst von Saurma of Sport Auto, www.track-challenge.com) of course the Vette is much faster...
Lap times are worth comparing only if there's a same driver.
But anyway the Z06 doesn't lap faster than any current Porsche sans CGT.
7:42.9 is the Z06's time made by Jan Magnussen
For example Wolfgang Kaufmann drove a 7:32.5 with a Gemballa GTR600 (it's a 996 mk1 GT3 with twinturbos) back in 2001. That car is not that extraordinady, heck we have one of those here in a small country with a total count of about 15 996TT's....
Edo's 996 GT2 RS has done 7:15.63. Manthey's 410hp GT3 has done 7:41 in AutoBild Magazine etc. etc...too much shouting about the 7:42:9 imho...it depends of the driver so much. Btw. despite the huge power difference, a bone stock 996 GT3 RS in correct hands is only 0.1 seconds slower than the time Magnussen was able to push out of a Z06.
Anyway, I like the Z06...don't see those too much here in Europe. Nice one from GM!

Another good example is that Nissan's race driver did a 7:59 lap 10 years ago with a stock Nissan Skyline GTR-33...a time that would be quite impossible to see from a normal magazine journalist
The point was that the driver matters imho a bit too much, so it's a bit difficult to compare those times. On the other hand, straightline performance can be compared much easier imho despite different drivers.
I like the Z06 and I'm sure a motor journalist like Horst von Saurma (whose times people are comparing the Z06 lap time) can manage to do under 7.50 or so with the car...but 7:42:9 sounds like a time only a race driver can do. But that's something we will see hopefully in this year. Anyway that's why I decided to reply to this thread! Nothing else
I might have a different opinion than the majority of car forum members in the 'net because I actually drive that track and realize how different track it is..
Anyway lots of respect for Z06! Here if you order one you can have it in late 2007, it will be a rare car in other European countries too...might be well worth considering.
EDIT: One thing to add about this annoying lap time debate. GM (or was it a magazine) published that Dave Hill can do a 7:56 with the C6 Vette. Everybody was like woah, that's as fast as 996TT (tested by Sport Auto / Horst von Saurma)! Then when the car came to Europe Sport Auto tested it, it did a 8:15. Still a fast time and clearly faster than a E46 M3 for example but not quite in the 996TT territory...That's why it's always good to be a bit doubtful.
