GT3 for daily driver?

Hello I am new to this forum so please excuse me if this has been asked before.
How many of you GT3 owners drive your cars for everyday use? I just love the look of the GT3 and I am sick of seeing standard 996's/997's.

Will the stiff suspension start to wear on me after awhile? I may track the car on occasion but it will definitely be 99% of the time my everyday work/pleasure car.

For what I'm going to use the car mainly for, I'm I better off with a turbo?
your personal experiences would be greatly apprieciated

I thank you in advance for your inputs

The new GT3 has PASM... I'd drive it every day.

Loanman,
Maybe this will help your thought process:
1. Determine what your definition of "stiff suspension" is. Perhaps, compare to other cars that you have owned or driven.
2. Will this be your only car or do you have others in your stable?
3. What are the street conditions where you live or drive daily?
4. Are you willing to detour certain streets, driveways, etc. so you won't scrape or have to replace the front splitter?
5. 996 GT3's are very twitchy in the rain!
IMO, the GT3 is a streetable race car and does a great job at that. Get used to the fact that on washboard surfaces it will get bouncy. It is noisy, the radio isn't that great (but who listens to it anyway?). When you shut the doors it sounds tinny (minimal sound material to save weight).
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy mine and drive daily, it never gets tiresome.
Benefits: It's a GT3!
Good luck.

You have to be in really good shape to drive a GT3 daily. I used to not work out when I had my 993. Once I got the GT3, I started lifting. I am huge. I could have never developed into the machine that I am today without the GT3. He and I are one.

I drive mine daily with euro GT3 seats, fabspeed muffler bypass pipes etc. Its not all that bad. I do not mind it at all. I would feel bored driving anything else around daily.

You're better off with a 997S or 996TT in my opinion.

The GT3 has to be running over 6800rpm to get into the strong powerband, that's over legal speeds in 2nd gear, and you have 4 more gears to go.

Test drive the 996 GT3, 996TT and 997S.

Personally, The 996TT and 997S are too soft and numb for my taste. I've driven both multiple times, and my opinion has not changed.

It's doable as a daily driver, it's just a question of what you are used to, what your expectations are and what the roads are like in your area.

Mine's a daily driver and I've got GT3 seats, muffler bypass pipes and MPSC's (super stiff sidewall) and the roads in my area really suck. It doesn't rain much here, so I can't comment on that. But you do really have to focus on not getting the front spoiler caught on everything and sometimes it scrapes no matter what (and because of the design, everyone around you will know it).

Where are you located Holger? How are the bypasses?

San Francisco...and I live in the city where all the roads are falling apart and the exhaust echos off all the buildings.

The bypasses are awesome (and great for setting off car alarms). They're actually better on the street than on track. You're almost always at high rpm on track and the noise seems to reverberate inside my helmet & earplugs don't help. 1/2 hour sessions is about all I can take before my head needs a rest...

I used my GT3 as a DD. If you've driven a TT and that is "around" the comfort level you're looking for, then I would say you will get annoyed with a GT3 after time. Of course, it also depends on road conditions, length of commute, etc. It was annoying when I couldn't drive somewhere for lunch or something bc I knew I couldn't get up the entrance ramp, but those are things you just learn to deal with... Also, I put the fabspeed muff bypass pipes on and while it sounds unbelievable, it was borderline too loud for DD use (and I LOVE loud, but I'm also not deaf yet like some!)

It would be ideal if you had a second car to alternate with. I drive my 3 almost daily, but its not my daily driver...thats why I bought a used BMW 330CIC. Actually, a TT might be a better choice for you for a DD. The GT requires a little thought and consentration to drive and I not saying the TT doesn't...you can get a little tired driving the GT3.

this is true... no pcar (excluding the CGT) has the raw, visceral feel of a gt3.
