Coming from a C4 owner. Watch out for the Boxsters on the road, they might give you trouble..

I could care less how fast the Vette is. It is still a Vette. I will take my GT3 any day..... Actually I would rather drive a 912 than a Vette.... Just me.

Getting back to the original question............... IMHO, if I could afford either one, I would choose the 997GT3.

Build quality, pedigree, over 43 years of refining a 911, more pure driving car than the Z06, more track oriented straight off the showroom floor, resale value remains high, small production number to help the resale value, exclusivity.

No one disputes the Z06 is fast, looks good and is a performance value.

Haha, not much of a drag racer but you can run an 11.3 which would be at least top 5 of all C6Z's recprded bone stock to date? Not to mention a 1.8 60' time on runflats is not any where near middle of the pack either.

These are two very different cars but made for the same purpose so this is no where near an apples to oranges comparisons. Both of these cars were meant to run on road courses. Vettes are breaking rear ends etc because people are running straight to the drag strip in a car meant for raod racing. (there is no excuse for the roofs, engine failures, burning carpets, cracking rotors and many of the other issues that are way too common) There is no denying the GT3 is a better built car, there is also no denying the Z06 is faster in a straight line. But neither of those matter on the Road course unless there are minimal curves.

The amazing thing is that most of the people moaning in this thread probably dont even drive their cars on the track and if they do they drive like panzies. Road course victories are b.s. anyways beacuse you never know the competence of the other driver or their effort. So what we end up with is a bunch of people magazine racing and bench racing when no one could ever come close to a lap time of the pros on the ring. I have lapped a Ford GT, passed an e60 M5 and several C5 and C6 corvettes in a modded E39 m5 but there are many of those I am certain I could beat myself in if I were driving.

The bottom line is there is no real parameters until you get into serious racing with lap times and all and for many of us (not including myself) all this arguing is a waist of time. But it's fun to try to prove a point so we do it anyways. And for the original poster did you really think you would get a non biased opinion posting on this board?

Oh yeah and to answer the original question I would probably get neither. I would opt for a 996 GT2 which should be around the 120-150k range now over the 997 GT3. There is not much bang for the buck for an over all performance car than the Z06 but with all the durability issues it would make driving it at the track too nerve racking in that price range I would probably get a 996 GT3 or maybe the new viper with 650 hpif they ever announce it.

Dude, really this is the last time I explain this. I am starting to believe this is an excercise in futility. My 2 shift time is 8.42 seconds. That means I accelerated from 0 went through the gears and was accelerating/rolling into 60 mph, shifted into 3rd at 75 and into 4th at 105, which brought me to 130 without another shift. No trick or gimmicks, just accelerate as fast as you can and we time your interval between 60 - 130 mph.

My one shift time which isn't anything that you have to do was 8.10. That was 1st into 3rd rolling into 60 mph accelerate and shift into 4th at 105 and accelerated to 130 without another shift. The two shift time every car can run without any issue, it is just that, accelerate as fast as you can, simple. PM me and I will ask KPG if he will be nice enough to send the Racelogic to your home. It is a simple plug and play box. It is already programmed to do everything for you.
