997s vs 996 gt3
997s vs 996 gt3
I curently own a 06 997S and was considering a 04 996GT3.. I was just curious on how different the two are as far as performance goes, I know drivabiltiy and comfort would definitly go to the 997S but im more curious on the performance diff. The 996 GT3's would probably outhandle the 997S vastly? how about straight line speed, what would the outcome be in a race stock for stock. I currently have the GIAC chip and some fabspeed muffler bypass pipes, would it be a close race.. I was looking into the GT3's advantages and it doesnt seem enough to complelty blow away a 997s. Probably weighs about 200 lbs lighter then my car, about 20 hp diff and 8200 redline, not sure about the gearing between the 2, also doesnt the 997S have a little more torque?
I used to walk on my buddy on his 05 997S with your same exact mods (plus a V-flow) every time, from a dig from a roll and let's not start talking about the *** whoppings he got on the track.
He sold it and got a Stradale.

As a prior owner of both, the 997S is a far better street car. Based on your post, it doesn't sound like you are an experienced track driver. If you aren't a track day addict, stick with the S. If you take a few tokes on the go fast track pipe, the GT3 is the car to have.

The 997S is great on the street and more than competent on the track.... BUT, the track is where the GT3 lives and kills others, if that is what your looking for, then the GT3 is for you.
DO IT!... the GT3 is much more car than the 997S... i had the 997S... great car, great technology, great fun... but it is just NOT a GT3... but if you want a daily driver... i'd suggest you to keep the 997S... if you are handling oriented driver... definitly 996GT3 no questions asked... and for a bonus, in 5 years from now the 996GT3 is going to worth more than the 997S...
