997s vs 996 gt3
how about as far as reliability,, i mean one car is older then the other plus im sure that its going to be hard to find a GT3 that hasnt been drivin hard...
Hmm but im actually suprised that the Gt3 would be that much faster then then a 997S as far as just straight line power goes.. Doesnt the the Gt3 average about 12.3 @ 116 and the 997S around 12.6 @ 113

STRT, GT3s are very robust cars. Very tough. But they are not nearly the street car as the 997S is. They suffer from quite a few compromises to get them in track shape.
Having had both, I don't really agree with many in this thread that the answer to which car is so clear cut. As far as straight line speed, the GT3 doesn't have the midrange tq of the 997S, so the S actually feels as fast if not faster than the 3. The 3 shines in the upper reaches of the rev band, but the problem is, to get there in any gear above 1, you are in 'lose your license territory'.
My advice is for street cars, stick with the 997S. More comfortable, very visceral, more precise handling (lots of suspension issues with GT3s IMO), better bump compliance under hard cornering on the street, etc etc.
On a side note, based on initial reports, the 997 GT3 marries some of the streeting qualities of the 997s while improving the track performance of the 996 GT3. But for the two cars under consideration here, I'd keep the S. If you really need the straight line speed, get a RUF blower.

I mean I wont really be trackin the car but im also not that big of an advocate of the whole black leather and wood feel,, Im fine with the raw power feel, I had a 04 Z06 before I traded it in for my 06 997S couple months ago,,Im just wondering if it will be worth it to give up a new car, new technology, more comfort and practicality for a raw sports car that its not that much diff in performance. Seriously how much difference is ther in performance, Im mainly talking about the power in a staight line becuase the handling is way more then enough on a 997S for the streets. The feeling and actual speed is the main thought.. the main type of "spirited driving" or whatever that will be done is like the vids that I or other people on this or other forums have posted of me. As far as stiffness and throttle response, when I press the sport button I dont see how people would want thier suspension to be any stiffer and have an even more sensitive throttle...
Some act like the Gt3 is a waayyy better performer and some say it really isnt..The main question is it worth given up my much newer, comfortable, practical 997 for the raw power, sportier 996

Agree that 997S is better street car. Luis happens to be a better driver than his friend that had the 997S. I've beaten more than one 996 GT3 on short and intermediate road courses with 300 hp. A good driver in a 997S can still hold his own against a less-experienced GT3 driver. All things equal, I'd buy the GT3 for the most grins!
