I do have a sunroof in my 996 and it is nice to once in a while open it up, BUT there really is NO point in there being one on a GT2!

I dont think the GT2 will not be here for awhile, long while.

Sorry in advance for the long winded post…
Some days…when I see threads like these I begin to question whether or not I should have left my “career†behind in the auto industry in order to pursue my dream of owning my own business. Why? We’ll, I could only hope that at times like these Wendelin Wiedeking would somehow find his way to these GT2 threads and take our collective ideas, wants & desires and hold them in high regard. Oh yeah…and hire me in an executive management position at Porsche. Is there a COO position available in Germany? Is thePresident of PCNA ready for a change? Dream on, I know, but why should he hire me?
I’d take a minimum salary and take a maximum risk by making sure that the US version of the 997 GT2 would be VERY similar to the ROW version of the 997 GT3 RS.
The performance of the new 997 GT2 should be as close to that of the CGT’s as possible. The new GT2 should take a more serious approach to such extreme competition as the new F430 CS and the Lambo Superleggera. Make it brutal, make it different, and perhaps even market it different. That is, if it needs to be marketed at all. But that’s a whole other topic…
The new GT2 should essentially be a 550+ horsepower turbocharged version of a ROW GT3 RS with newly developed CGT seats to meet US regs, roll bar, etc… In view of its message as a temporary “Halo†car for Porsche, it should have in addition some of the following attributes: A sunroof should be optional, but not standard. At best, the roof should be solid & made of carbon fiber. Hey, if the M6 can have one… The 6-speed manual[7-speed manual? hmm…] would be standard. PDK optional. No tip available. Its use of exotic, lightweight materials should make up the difference between the [high] price of the 996 GT2 and the F430 CS. This will probably be in the neighborhood of 230K+.
Does anyone know how much titanium weighs verses carbon fiber or aluminum? How about cost of manufacture? I would love to know answers like that from a production standpoint. Imagine for a moment…
In other words, if it’s made out of stamp steel now, make it out of lighter & more exotic materials tomorrow. Ferrari for example has made it publicly clear that they will use the best materials available to engineer future versions of their cars. Even if the above actions were realized, and Porsche had to raise the MSRP into the range of the F430 CS, then so be it. Even though that would prevent a few more of us being able to afford such a machine, myself included, we all know what a little incentive can do for our dreams. It’s probably too late for most of these ideas to be developed & implemented, but what form would the 998 GT2 take if the 997 GT2 proves successful?
Besides, it would perfectly compliment whatever form the Carrera GT replacement will take, if they decide to build it.
Thanks for reading.

- GT2’s suspension components fashioned from titanium.
- Body panels made from CF & aluminum.
- Engine, drive train, exhaust and other components made from ceramics, titanium, magnesium and inconel.
- Magnesium & aluminum switchgear ala CGT
- Perhaps even widen the body by a further 10 - 15mm. I would rather make it a track star that can do 201 MPH rather than 204 MPH for instance.
