I can't recall the name, but the main track in Portland (check the Oregon plate) has had noise problems so likely that is the reason for the "wheelie pipes".

I'll say it that is a obsurdly stupid way to get around noise regs. Why would you not just put on something else that will still give gains as well as look asthetically pleasing. Now the subject of cost could come up but then really if you can't afford to do something then leave it alone and save the $60 for those hideous pipes and buy another tank of gas. On another note though besides those pipes tat is a great looking car in an amazing color and I apploud the owner on having one.

Why is that? It does the job effectively.

Lap times talk, bullsh!t walks.

Who said anything about cost? If it's cheap and does the job, what's the problem? I don't follow your logic: "if you can't afford to do something then leave it alone..." He did what he had to in order to get by the noise regulation at the track. Maybe he should've gotten the pipes in carbon fiber

I've seen some GT3's with modified exhaust that burn and melt the paint around the opening. If this is for temporary use it is much better than damaging the paint.

Maybe true but the gains have to be minimal and when you buy a car such as this you must be somewhat concerned with physical apearence of the vehicle. Now if one isn't concerned with that at all then we are on completely different pages and will just have to agree to disagree. When I brought up cost I was not refering to anything CF but rather something that actually did the job and looked nice. Say a nice piece from cargraphic, orton, gmg, anything rather than this midas job that belongs on a 1985 camaro.

you are missing the point. They are put on with little effort to get by noise regs, period. They are curved and aimed down towards the road for a reason...to make it quieter. For this purpose, he would not be concerned with the dolled up poser look, so midas fits the bill perfectly...they probaly can go on and off in 5 minutes or less. The hp gains with straight pipes on a 996 GT3 are not minimal.

Alright point taken but in my opinion if that was my motive, noise res at a track, the pipes would only be on at the track and right off before I left. That picture does not look to be at a track at all so this is why it would not suit my taste. But if to each his own and if the gains are that substantial then thumbs up for being creative.
