997 GT3 Break-In
997 GT3 Break-In
I've got 140 miles on my car and can't wait to explore the upper RPM range. For those of you who have been in my shoes, what did you do during your "break-in" period. Personally, I've been varying the revs and gears a lot around town - no lugging of the engine and taking it easy on the gear box. I've also kept the revs below 5500. But boy, does the intake take on a different quality above about 4500.
Please give me some insight as to what excitement lies beyond 5500. Is it yet another step up in terms of exhause note, intake growl, or an extra thrust of power?

I've been told that Porsche breaks the engines in at the factory prior to installation and the break-in period is for the legal dept. at Porsche.
I've had two 996 GT3's and the break-in period was about 38 seconds.

break in
I had a good laugh on that one. Anyway, how about the feel of the transmission, does it loosen up a bit with a few miles. I'm used to a short shifter (I had it on my 996). It seems that you definitely need to allow a slight hesitation in neutral as you go through the gears. I always double clutch going down so that's not an issue.
breakin
I may be the exception but I broke both my 996gt3 and my 997gt3 in as stated in the book. Long drives (200+miles) with many shifts. My 996gt3 after 10000 miles and track days never burned a drop of oil. My 997gt3 now has 5000 miles and 5 track days and is the same. The shifter works better the harder you use it.
