Formula1 is infamous around these parts
Unless that was the CSL version of the M3, which someone said it was not, then the RS should have walked away from him. I own both E46 M3 and 996GT3 (non RS) and the GT3 is so much faster it isn't funny. The RS driver's rear end is stepping out at the first part of the video when he's under pressure from the M3. RS misses some apexes as does the M3, but it looked like the M3 driver was toying with him and could have passed whenever he wanted to.

I own both a 997 GT3 (not RS) and an e46 M3. I can tell you that no way the M3 can keep up with the GT3, let alone GT3RS unless the M3 is a CSL or is heavily modded.

there's no comparison...

even a 996Turbo is about 22 seconds faster on the Ring with the best drivers... much more so GT3 and RS at that.

It's all driver. I could be driving a Carrera GT and Walter Rohl could pass me easily with a Boxster S.

I'll be damned if I get beat in a CGT by a stock boxter.

The driver can make all the difference. People spend all kinds of money on the car and put a crappy driver behind the seat. Upgrading the driver with proper training and the performance increase will be more than what money can buy for the car.

I know they do but you have to draw the line somewhere, especially if your a half decent driver.

Nice. People laugh at me when I say M3 is easier to drive hard and still in control.

Talking

The GT3RS driver was like an Alonso but without the skill or something.

The M3 is a wonderful machine with awesome chassis balance. Most Porsches have the edge on steering feel and suspension tuning.

i think the m3 is very easy to control. my friends are always amazed when i throw the back end out and just flick my wrist and pull it back in...i think with a 911 it might be harder to drive at the limit, but if you can the drive is so much more rewarding than anything else out there!

The GT3 even with a mediocre driver should have pulled the M3 on the straights. Looks like he had 10-20hp more only from the way he was pulling. Maybe M3 had some engine mods and such??
this was a 996 gt3 rs, not a 997...so it didnt have 415 hp, but rather 381...unless the euro spec is totally different.

Coming from another owner of both cars the GT3 is noticeably faster in a straight line and around the track. While the m3 has better turn-in, it cant match the corner exit traction the gt3 can generate. These two drivers arent in the same league. Also, did I see that M3 outbraking the GT3? There is something seriously wrong there. When I first got my gt3 it took me a while to recalibrate my braking points as it can go much deeper than the m3.
