Quote: I think assumption is more like it. Take a look at the post right above this one ^^^

Well let's see. I was saying that an avarage driver in an RS will get beat by a Great driver in a GT3. Which part is based on assumption?

Yeah we've been had.

Quote: Ofcourse the RS is faster - same power, less weight
Minimal diff in weight 20 kilos = 44lbs...on the ring they run almost the same
RS has more drag due to wide hips...then again it is mucho hotness

Never mind... You're right, it's logical, there's no assumption there.

This thread's going no where.

Yes CyE55 his argument holds no water...the car is almost the same car...thats why on the ring they were within 10th's of a second with a pro behind the wheel driver no doubt RS looks awesome and I would own one in 3 seconds flat.

I don't understand what the issue is here anyway. The thread's about Kevin liking his sunroof. Why are people getting defensive about RS vs the "roof spoiler" GT3??

It is not about who paid more for a slower car and who is a bigger sucker. The RS is a fanatstic car and let's face it, none of us can test the limits of either car. I am just asking a simple question and there are some facts out there. I had heard about the Nurburgring results but I haven't seen any official numbers. Let's gather our own facts, GT3 curb weight is 3,075, the RS is 3,031 (offical numbers from Porsche USA). You have about 40lb advantage there. The HP and torque are the same. In a straight line 0-60mph, the published numbers are 4.0s (GT3) vs 4.1s (RS), not much difference. You have wider track on your RS than the GT3. That might help getting through the corners faster. On paper, the RS should be faster, however slight it might be. So, the difference might come down to the driver because the specs are too close to call. Either way, I think the two cars will perform very similar around the track and for an average driver, they are practically the same.

Oh, I forgot, I got more downforce on my GT3 due to tilting of the sunroof, so I might get ahead, after all!

Well argued and fun as well. Your ability to present your case without beating up your fellow members is refreshing. It's a car either way and not many will get it up to 193 MPH, so what is the difference? Better for all to spend more time behind the wheel with that big smile.

I buy cars I like and not what road tests tell me.I bought a RS because I liked the way it looked!!I knew the GT3 was less money but was willing to pay more for the RS. When you get to these level of cars the difference in one being faster than the other as far as I am concerned is driver skill.I am a driver of average skill so if a GT3 blows my doors off I don't give a ****! I feel very fortunate and grateful to be in a financial position to buy the car and enjoy it. The GT3 and GT3 RS are both incredible automobiles and anyone who owns one is should be very appreciative.

Couldn't agree more. Seems that the GT3 folks love to talk about the magazine results as some sort of justification, IMO (most don't but there are a few that do). That's why I took issue. Both cars are phenomenal. I have a GT3 on the way as well (not sure what I will do with it).

The looks of the RS did if for me, just like you. Once I saw it, I knew.

I have no idea what you mean by "some sort of justification." Justification for what? The $20,000 difference in price was no issue for me, and I assume for none of us on this board. I got on the waiting list a year prior to getting the car, so I could have had the Rs, if I wanted to, I suppose. As awesome the GT3 RS is, I wanted something that I could drive everyday and all the fanfare with the big spoiler and the cage and not having creature comfort would not have worked for me. And I actually like the sunrrof, as stated. I don't worry about the weight or pure performance so much as I may track my car two or three times a year. Even then, I won't be able to push the car to its limits anyway. I actually ordered the car with navigation and phone as well, so I guess I am even slower than a std bare bone GT3. But I don't care. I love the car. I may buy an RS later on, but I can't see why right now. For the money, I rather add a Ferrari to my collection again.
Kevin.
