Nasty metalic like sound at start up

I occasionally get this grinding matalic noice at start up, but only if the car has been sitting in the garage for a few days or so.

Has anyone else experienced this?
What could it be?

If it sounds like marbles in a tin can, it's normal. My Gt3 made the exact sound. I forget the reason why. I'm sure someone on the forum can explain it better than I.

Oil pressure in the chain tensioners bleed down, upon first start needs oil pressure to pump the tenioners back to attain proper tension. The metallic rattle is the chains until they are tensioned.

I don't know. My GT3 is a garage queen and it never sounds like that when I start it. I have an '02 Carrera, though which cracked the intermediate shaft a couple of years ago. The metallic sound gave way to an engine replacement under warranty. I sincerely hope this is not your problem. Good luck with the GT3.

There is no oil in the system if it sits awhile like two days or more.
its normal. If it was run the day before it still has enough oil to coat and keep the noise down. But anything more than that and it makes an awful racket till the oil gets sprayed to the motor, on start up

Normal mind did it all the time...its the starter or something that makes that noise for a second...

I think it has something to do with gases in the exhaust until it warms up a bit.

My Gt3 does it as well. It's perfectly normal. It's the chain tensioner. It does it more when the car hasn't been driven for a number of days.

My understanding is that it's the smog pump upon startup of a cold engine. Once the engine warms and the cats start working properly, the pump stops and the noise does as well.

My mechanic at an independent garage says it's the chain tentioner and not to be concerned.
