dead battery,cant pop hood

i havent driven my GT3 for almost 2 years. The battery is completely dead. Im trying to hook up the battery charger but i cant even pop the hood. I read on the manual to pull out this thing in the fuse box. I tried to hook my battery charger to that but no luck. Any ideas?

Why have a GT3 and ignore it for 2 years? Especially with a screen name that reads "LUVMYGT3"! Not even a short drive!?!

The fuse box is in the drivers side footwell-- on the left side of the "foot compartment." Stick on end of the jumper cables to the assigned attachment piece in the fuse box and another on the metal bar on the vertical part of the interior door jamb. That'll do it.

it should still have roadside assistance on it. call porsche and let them deal w/ it. also anytime i know i wont drive the 3 for more than 2 weeks i pop the hood for this very reason (assuming i dont have the battery maintainer plugged in.)

The directions to get the hood open are also in your manual...

i tried to hook my battery charger to the red thing in the fuse box and the neg end on door jam. Left it for 20 mins still wont pop hood.maybe i can use a jumper box,but i dont want to send such high currents into my fuse box. i know its a sin to have the car and not drive it Hernando but i fell into the statistics of not enough time to enjoy it.

Yes, I believe you need a jumper for that one, but don't quote me on that...

You should be using a battery tender to keep the battery charged when not in use.

I have been down this road...yes you should be using a battery tender. However to open the hood you cannot use a jump box or anything except another battery. Hook up to the pull out positive post in the fuse box and the negetive to the door jam. Then you can open the hood. Going forward get the Porsche tender and you can always plug it in to the cigarette lighter to open the hood. Good luck...now drive it!!!!

You CAN use a jumper box to do it, done it many times. Anything with enough voltage to do it will work. And I wouldn't suggest leaving the front trunk popped without manually latching it, as this will leave the light on inside.

The light goes off after about 20 minutes with the hood popped.

Oh ok, I don't think I've left one open for that long to try it, I've always manually clicked it closed, but a handy piece of info, none the less.

Talking I had the same thing happen!

I had the same thing happen to my 2003 GT2. I was ready to flatbed it to the Pittsburgh Porsche dealer but we decided to try the fuse link post and door jamb u-post (for ground) a few more times. After some jiggling around on the door jamb u-post, we finally got the connection right and I was able to pop the hood.

I would recommend the regular Battery Tender or Junior Battery Tender (Battery Tender Company) over the Porsche model because it comes with the alligator clip hook-up and the pigtail hook-up. I use the pigtail hook-up on all my cars because you can un-hook the Tender and the 18 or 24 inch pigtail remains there for quick connection anytime you want it. Beats leaving a window partially open while connected. Good luck! Mags

As has been said...just use regular jumper cables... Ive had to do it like 3 times in the last month due to a bad ground in my audio system
