My car has 750 miles and the rears have started squealing like a freight train every time I coast to a stop, it's even worse when I reverse. It's not the high pitched friction noise of cooked brakes, more the usual pad vibration against the calipers. The tech at the dealer took if for a spin and looked a bit embarassed, he told me that the design is grease-free, no more copper grease between pads. They said they will take the car in and call Atlanta to see if they have some miracle cure.

So now with 1300 miles, the squealing of the rear pads got even worse, sounds like a freight train whenever I coast to a stop. So I booked the car in. They called Porsche NA in Atlanta today and got the advice to mount 997TT rear pads instead. These have a damping pad that the GT3 pads seemingly don't have. Has anyone else done this ?

I Know this sound like BS but I tracked my car, hard braking and it stopped the brake noise. Good reason to DO IT AGAIN.... I know that you can buy a painted on backing for the brake pads that they sell at the parts store. Not sure that would help you. Try the heavy brake or better yet just track it.

I surely will - and soon :-) - but till then, that squeal is just plain unbearable so I am glad that it's fixed (or almost fixed, there was a hint of a squeal driving the car out).
The downside of the "bake it a the track" solution is that, if it doesn't, you're left with the "you tracked the car so your brakes squeal" argument which, frankly, I'd rather not have to listen to.

My 14 year old Miata that cost lesst than one of your wheels squeels when I brake too (due to Hawk HP+ pads). It's no serious track toy. I'd suggest taking the pads out, adding some anti-squeel to the backing plates, re-bedding them and if that doesn't work see if there are alternate pad choices.

My Elise has cross drilled brakes from AP/Brembo and they don't squeel/squeak at all.
