996 GT3 Exhaust

Looking to improve the sound of a stock 996 GT3 -- if I pick up a couple of HP in the meantime, great but not neccessary...

I am still under warranty and then CPO. I do not want a CEL as a result of an exhaust change...

I have been told that 100 cell race cats will trigger the CEL etc.

I simply want to improve the sound.

Any reccomendations?

I did a search -- 996 GT3 Exhaust and results were a bit lame... or I am not using the search feature properly...

I have done some internet looking at Fabspeed and Europipe.

Any other reccomendations?

By the way -- keep this to yourself -- if you see/talk to my wife -- I AM NOT LOOKING AT ANY MODS

PJ,
You are busted, knew you couldn't hold off for long. Europipe would be a nice option but, your wife didn't hear it from me.

i have fabspeed muffler bypass pipes. pretty loud, 550 bucks and save about 45 pounds from the rear of the car. It was the best bang for the buck for me. I love my sportscars loud so it did it for me, but you might want to hear one in person before you do it because it is too loud for some.

D-Uber -- I am just looking around

Boyracer -- I am worried about the volume of the bypass pipes... While i want to impove the sound, I am not sure I just want LOUD... if that makes sense...

Europipe sounds pretty good... but it is a lot of $$$ for an exhaust.

Any other reccomendations?

I have a full Milltek system with headers, but it sounds pretty much stock.
D-Uber has heard it.

fellow RL is using europipe which has 100 cell cats and is getting CELs... which I do not want... and you are right... it is a lot of $$$ for an exhaust...

What other options are out there?

Fabspeed
Europipe
Milltek

I saw a nice caragraphic set up on the GMG web site but I can only imagine how much that set up costs...

well that is good to hear...

I misread the RL post about CELs and Europipe... I just re-read it and it is the caragraphic R system that is give a fellow 3 owner the CELs...

sorry about that... thread is in the 996 GT3 section titled exhaust rehash....

The Europipe has been great on my car. Worth every penny.

PJ,
Luis's Milltek sounds good, only slightly louder than stock with lower tone. Low to mid range torque was good w/strong top end. Nice set up however, think same price range as Europipe.
Got to drive his car, very nice blk beauty!

I have the complete power kit 2 cargraphic setup. It sounds great and drops roughly 25lbs from the car. This kit comes with headers/100 cell cats/mufflers/reprogramed ecu all done in stainless steel. It must be installed carefully otherwise air leaks can occur which will generate CEL. I'm happy with it.

zed is infamous around these parts
Has anyone re-routed the exhaust system so that it has a similar path to the 997 GT3's? It seems that the 996 would achieve a better sound if the cats were placed where the mufflers are now and then there was a small(ish) single muffler (with two outlet pipes) into which the gases from both cylinder banks would be mixed. As long as there are 2 completely separated cylinder banks of 3, I'm not sure I'll ever be happy with the sound, regardless of supplier.

Zed
