996 GT3 Tequipment Roll Bar ?s
996 GT3 Tequipment Roll Bar ?s
I did some searches and was unable to locate the answer to my question...
I am looking at a tequipment roll bar this weeknd for my 996 GT3.
I read this on the GMG wbsite:
"A common problem of the factory T equipment bar is that it requires the use of 1-piece fixed back GT3 style seats for proper leg room. If you are 5’10” and taller moving the seat back far enough is a challenge with factory bar."
Question:
any real world experience with regards to use of tequipment roll bar and height greater than 6'3"? Would you agree with the GMG statement?
I am currently using the stock seats (not GT3 seats... not yet) and I am trying to determine if adding the tequipment bar will be an exercise in futility and spent money that I will regret -- meaning I buy it, pick it up, get it installed, and find it impossible for me to get the seat properly adjusted...
Okay -- here is what you are going to say:
"Find a 996 with the T-bar in it and see if you fit you dumb ***"
Been looking and cannot find one to try out -- been to a few meets and one track day so far... no luck yet
"get the gt3 seats and the bar and shut up already"
Man I wish it was that easy... see I am no skinny ninny... I like to think "race team owner" as opposed to "race team driver" when it comes to size! My *** fits in a GT3 seat but my back does not... does that make me a fatback? that may be a good vanity plate
as Dubercars may say "get the GMG bar, problem solved"
You may be right... I thought I would check out the T-bar or at least ask some questions first.
Just looking to learn from other's experiences...
thanks

996 techquipment bar
I am 6'2, 225lbs and I think that I am as big as can fit comfortably. The bottom is back far enough to touch the bar and the back of the seat is barely not touching when I lean it back. If you are taller than 6'2 then I would not get it. My friend is 6'6 and he can get in but that is it.

6'2 220 here and leg room isnt a problem per say, the roll bar wont cramp you up with the GT3 seats, dunno about stock seats. I have sat in one with both GT3 seats and Tequipment and the leg rooms was the least of my worries. I hated it because I have broad shoulders and they arent good for that, Jenk12m tried it too and felt the same way. If you dont have broad shoulders the GT3 seats are the way to go.

I've got a 996GT3 from which I just removed the Tequipment bar for the same reason. I'm 6'4" 185 with the stock (reclining) seats and bought the car originally with the Teq bar in place. The seat can slide all the way back however the backrest can not recline very far at all, to the point where you are practically upright. This might be okay for track events (pending helmet clearance) but not for the daily driving I do with it. I was certainly able to drive it around by lowering the seat to the floor, but never really got comfortable in it.
Keep in mind also that the normal Teq bar with cross brace makes the rear of the car almost entirely unusable (perhaps not a concern for you). I ended up swapping this bar for Porsche's other (and hard to get!) Teq bar, which is the same thing just without the cross bracing. This allows some additional safety without sacrificing seat travel, access to the rear, or visibility. I also looked at all of the other brands out there (including the GMG and the other kind with the removable cross brace) but was set on the brushed stainless look, so in it went.
Hope that helps - feel free to PM me if you've got any other q's.

does the "other" teq bar that you have allow you to mount a haness?
