I don't know about a cup car motor, but am thinking a regular GT3 motor could be transplanted into my Cayman....

That would be sublime.

I think they did a 3.8X51, still pretty close though. It sounded pretty plug and play.

The X51 997s engine is an easier swap. Since the cayman/boxster engine architecture is very similar.

Fitting a GT3 street or cup engine would be much more difficult.. Certainly more involved.

Would probably be an amazing vehicle once completed...if done properly.

Yeah, but for what you'd spend getting it done and sorted, you'd be money ahead to just buy the Cup car in the first place. But, I guess saving money is not the point, huh?

Can I ask the cost of a 997S X51 motor?

If you put a cup motor in a Cayman and set it up as a cup car I'd bet money it would walk the GT3.

So if you buy a cayman for $50k plus a cup motor for $55k plus add cup suspension, exhaust, etc for $30k plus figure install on the whole deal at $25k. You are now the proud owner of a $160k cobbled piece that may beat a $120k brand new car with full warranty. Sounds like a deal!

I believe that even a stock GT3 engine in a non S with 5k in suspension (coilovers, struts, camber plates, etc) and 3k in brakes would take the GT3 in every aspect apart from top end and off the line traction. And it would be smaller, nimbler, lighter, easier to drive, have better ground clearance and blah blah blah...

But the 964 crankcase of the GT3 and of course the crate engine price makes it impossible without a lot of fabricating so we can just dream..

I just wish porsche used more elements of that engine for the non GT cars. Like dry sump... The Carrera/boxster engines are not bad but the GT3 one is a true gem and I would like to see that combined with the IMO superior mid engined platform of the Cayman.

I think it would kill an RS for half that.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a GT3 but fundamentally the Cayman is far superior platform to build from.

I completely agree with Gabriel, a GT3 motor, full suspension/coilovers alone may be enough. Problem is Porsche will never build it and why they won't is the end of this comparison.
