Will any one be at Laguna Seca tomorrow (Oct 2) with any of the above mentioned mufflers or pipes for sale. I would be happy to purchase from you if it will help me. I don't mind lifting, but it would be easier to not think about it.
COnfirmed one more time the 997 Stock exhaust is too loud for a 92 db day at LS. I did a check going up the hill in third and read 95 db. Lifted all day then ran two laps in third at WOT at the end of the day for fun. I sounds like alot of the sound is from the intake. For those who stuffed foam in the intake, Where did you put it? The lower wing is hollow and I was thinking foam in there may reduce sound resonating from the intake without reducing air flow.
A yellow 997 GT3 had elbows on his exhaust I am curious if that helped, but did get to chat with him at the end of the day. I will get my muffler guy to customize something because Laguna is just too fun and beautiful not to run! For those who have not been there in a while, the track surface is in great shape.
I learned I have alot of adjustment to make in order to drive the GT3 quickly there. The feedback from the cars chassis and steering is awesome!

trust me guys, i ran LS very often, there is no way in hell a stock 7gt3 will pass sound driven as usual.
you have to lift.
where to stuff foam? open the ***, you will see the air filter in a box. the hole you are staring through to see the air filter is where you stuff the foam. that would give you 1-2 db.
i also have turn down pipes, that only added another 1 db.
with above if i go WOT and not move left up the hill, i am at 93-94 db.
if i moved off line and short shifted, i am below 92.

Actually the most celebrated nuisance cases are the ones where people have built their homes next to hog farms. They wake up one day and cry "nuisance" and the law agrees with them. Go figure. . .
Laguna is wierd in that way.. Weather conditions will change the DB and how a car sounds..
The stewards are getting smart and they are recording sound everywhere.. So its not just near turn 5.
There are no sound restrictions for the pro weekends but Club racing and DE events get the restrictions.

I was at Laguna Seca today and got black flagged in the first session pulling 3rd between T5 and T6: 95 db instead of the allowed 92. Bone stock 997 GT3.
That blew half of my first session and I was told to really play it safe in the 2nd session, and not just in front of the sound booth because track mgt is getting really picky and "they can tell" !
So disabled sport mode, short shifted to 4th since T4 and barely passed my sound check at 91.1 db. Avoided 2nd at T11 and T2 too and pulled only 6000 rpm on the start finish straight. Maybe played it a bit too safe but I did not want to lose further sessions.
A stock Gallardo also got black flagged 3 times.
Seems that there are only two solutions:
- change the way you drive (and it's a real spoiler)
- change the way the car sounds
I've seen 430s running supertrap mufflers at LS, do they fit on GT3s ?
Is keeping the muffler valves closed with a pull-up resistor a viable option or will the backpressure completely strangle the engine at high revs ?

dudes, i simply do not understand why you ppl wont just listen to me. i have a lot of mileage at LS, it's only 90 miles from me.
a STOCK 997GT3, sport mode or not, WILL NOT PASS SOUND AT LAGUNA PERIOD.
turndowns do not work. i have over 10 different versions of turndowns AND i also stuff foam into intake box. it will not work if you are fast into T5 up the hill.
you NEED a giant muffler outside the bumper like cup cars at POC races.
OR
get a turndown with lots of supertrap discs
OR
run a vacuum line and force the exhaust flap closed ALL the time.
OR make T5 in 3rd, WOT to exit berm, hold steering lock, shortshift to 4th, full track left up the hill, down shift to 3rd after sound station, get ready to take T6 in 3rd.
yes, there are moving sound meters, you have to gamble on that. i dont change how i drive except at T5, if they meatball me at other places (they have done that 2x over last 6 years) well... i pack up and leave early.
OR you can buy another car specifically for laguna like my 996GT3. it passes sound no prob ;-)

I am happy to listen, if I had known before, I would have planned for it.
Ain't much fun for me to watch in anguish the T7 and T1 marshall to see whether they'll pull out the meatball of death, I even saw them pull it out and then roll it back as if they meant "you're getting awfully close". I did gun it in the 2nd half of the last session, but it's a spoiler.
So supertrap, any advice ? Is there an adaptor that fits the GT3 pipes and can two be mounted side by side ?

i am not barking at you. it's just that it's frustrating to see ppl SURPRISED at getting meatballed at LS. i must have posted it 10x on every porsche site. if you do LS a lot, i suggest have your car to carlsen porsche and christian (tech) can have the flap shut all the time with a trick he does. then you can be wot no prob. i witnessed J. von Overbeek do that in front of me. i had to lift and move left, he went straight up the hill WOT.
any fab shop can do it. i had mine done at tcdesignfab.com
i had the turn donw, but never fitted supertrap disc to them. i dont like how they look and i dont have the interest to bolt them on and off. i just drive 996gt3 at LS, and RS else where.

I had Christian at Carlsen install their mod, it's really elegant, fast, simple and inexpensive. A great solution to do T4-T5 flat out at Laguna. The valve system is only here to make a big mean noise, but keep the valves shut is said not make any difference in performance. I am not deaf enough yet to withstand the always on position.
