But I've never driven a Benz that has the steering and road feel of a 911 - that feeling of being connected to the pavement, to be able to pick any line to the millimeter and be able to hold it corner after corner - I just don't believe, with due respect to the black series, that the MB engineers have or ever will figure out nor desire to put the kind of neural connection between driver and road that is the essence of the Porsche mystique. Hope this helps...
Thanks. That does help. I'm just trying to understand why people would pick the GT3. If it's "feel", as you point out, I can understand that. Mercedes is going for a comfortable high-performance feel, not a raw, precise feel like the GT3.

Funny thing is when you meet the Benz in your GT3 on the street, the Benz will stay with you all day long. In fact, you'll likely get tired more quickly in the GT3 with all that shifting, shaking and tight hold on the wheel.

That may be true, but I'd rather be tired in the GT3 than asleep in the Benz..

IMO to answer your question dead on, Benz on the street yes will be damn identical or even more usable/tossable for performance, more comfy and overall a pleasure to drive day in and day out.. From my experiences with rough, loud and low car's, it gets old REAL FAST!

GT3RS on the street would get boring very quick driving it daily, now as far as fun factor, you know the answer

GT3 or GT3RS for the track

CLK63 Black Series for the street

The CLK is a better street car for many reasons

better front clearance
more torque
rides better
easier to drive fast on the street
better cup holder
automatic
feels more solid
no buttons to push
better exhaust note
easier to get in and out of
trunk

Ditto, from someone else who owns one of each.

Funny, I get enjoyment playing with fast sports cars with a sleeper, like the Benz. It's kind of like "look what I can do in my comfortable car". Of course I can drive my Ruf and CS faster, but not that much faster on the street. As for fun, the Ruf and CS are fun for a short trip up the mountain or for a quick high-speed blast. They're not fun on a long drive with freeways and traffic. I think having a car that's fun for everything is what AMG is trying to do.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the PM. I feel the same way. With the new lighter and faster AMGs and their outstanding road performance, I find myself using my faster cars less on the street and looking forward to more track events for the better-handling cars.

The main reason I started the thread is because I'm trying to decide between a Black Series and GT3 RS. I already have an E63 and CS, so I'm kind of weighing towards the Black Series as something very different. That is, a car I can take on a long trip to have fun with when I don't need four doors.

I would not want to take either on a long trip.

GT3 not an RS... only way I condone the RS if you are tracking it, b/c it will depreciate from their crazy prices right now. Drive both of them... then decide. And you can't magazine race the two... not on the street or the track... but I will flatter you... 12' difference in stopping from 70? so say you are driving 10/10ths, and you are about to brake from 70 or so into a second gear turn... what that 12 feet means is astronomical at these car's limits... This will allow the GT3 to be much deeper and at a higher speed than the MB before they both brake... BUT as you said you aren't talking about 10/10ths, thus my preference would be a base GT3... but it's ultimately your choice... drive them both.

rides better (NOT NECESSARILY SO)
easier to drive fast on the street (PROBABLY)
better cup holder(S) (YES)
automatic (YEAH, but the little kid's shift **** is ridiculous!)
feels more solid
no buttons to push
better exhaust note (ABSOLUTELY... Unless the GT3RS is in SPORT MODE)
easier to get in and out of (YEP)
trunk (a LOT of decent room-put a new large fax machine boxed in the trunk!)
The seat belt presenters are a 'slight' pain. If you don't grab the belts right away, they retract and then you have to be Houdini to reach them!

If you like using the paddles, they're also goofy like BMWs. They rotate with the steering wheel so you have to guess which is up and which is down is you're doing a lot of turns on the track or even around town. ALL F1 paddle shift cars should be like Ferraris. They stay fixed and you absolutely know which is up (right side) and which is down (left side)! Magwheel

Totally agree.. I find myself wanting more then ever a beast I can drive daily such as the CLK Black series, C63, M5/M6 and something along those line's...

CLK Black is so nice, very impressive performance wise, sick interior and navi, you just cannot go wrong! My local dealer is getting one in and i'm going to go check it out!

BTW Grussel you are out of your mind saying it has a better exhaust note then the GT3/RS haha!
