I'm sort of in the same situation that you were in 3 years ago. I've been looking around at 360s to replace my 996TT but recently have begun paying attention to Gallardos. Both cars are stunningly beautiful. The F-car has a more elegant interior but the Lambo has the edge in performance. It seems that you fell in love with the Lambo the second you saw it and forgot about the 360. Can you tell me what about the Lambo appealed to you at a level where the 360 didn't?

Gallardo is on a totally different level than F360, as it is a F430 competitor. F360 is ancient technology from 1999, its inferior in pretty much every respect.

I had a 2002 996TT which had some performance upgrades but nothing crazy. I too was going back and forth between a 360 and Gallardo. But once I drove a Gallardo and experienced the car it was a done deal. In my opinion the car is far and away superior in every way to a 360. Like others have said, it would be more fair to compare the Gallardo to the 430, which wasn't a consideration for me due to cost. The Gallardo is a much more enjoyable car for me to drive than was the turbo, BUT, you do give up a little low end performance if your car is modified at all. The marginal performance difference from 0-60 was not even a concern of mine. The joy I get from driving the Gallardo and just looking at its exotic beautiful lines is worth any of the minor things I gave up leaving the TT behind.

Feel free to email me if you would like to discuss further. I took a long time to make a decision to sell my turbo and make this move.

My biggest reservation about the 360 is the power downgrade since I have a 600hp 996tt but I've always wanted to own a Ferrari and figured the exoctic-ness would overcome the power deficiency. I never really considered buying a Lambo until recently. The more I read about the Gallardo the more it seems the better choice over a 360. Beside, my wife likes the Lambo much better than the F-car in terms of looks and it's always good to have the wife's blessing when you buy an expensive toy for yourself.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I can feel myself starting to sway towards the Lambo.

Orange Gallardos rock...congratulations! I highly recommend a Tubi in the event you still have the stock exhaust...it really adds to the experience.

Thank you for your comments.
Ok. What level did the Gallardo appeal vs the 360? Ill give it a go.. The Gallardo looked to me more of an wild animal with attitude. Like an F18 for the road. Like drinking straight spirit shots versus having in some mixer. At revs it took me to an automotive nirvana I didnt think money could buy. Let alone my money. Whether the appeal was that it boarded on being socially unacceptable, far too noisy, far too fast, too vibrant a color or just too ostentatious for these safe PC days, all I knew was that since I was a pup I dreamt of one day owning a Lambo and when that orange race exhaust equiped e- gear whipped a down change 50m away heading for my test drive, I knew I was gone. Sensory overload!!

Wow, pretty compelling reasons to go with a Gallardo! Okay, somebody want to buy my Turbo?

That is a great writeup. I have had mine for a month now and feel exactly the same way. I loved my Porsche and will own another (likely in addition though vs. instead of), but the Lambo is different....inexplicably so.
It's like the first time I got it in I saw the heavens part and angels descending around me as I wasnt actually blasting down the highway, but instead a path of clouds above all the other cars I was flying by...
It turns me on almost as much to just sit and stare at it as it does to drive it...
It makes me shake like a nervous kid getting to touch his first boob still when I get to drive it for the first several miles...
...it still just makes me giddy to think that I get to go outside and get in that car.

...and with that. I am off to Cars & Coffee :-)

Congrats on the car and thanks for posting on the experience (both you and Kevin). Got a chance to see Kevins car this weekend and it really is just incredible looking. It looks so much more aggressive than the 360 and sounds better too. This weekend we did a rally and just the look of the car in my review made me grin from ear to ear. I've never seen a car that puts a smile on not only the owners face, but also everyone else who sees it. You simply can't turn away. One day I hope to also own this divine piece of automotive greatness.

The only question I have is...When can I borrow it???
