I haven't driven a '10 turbo and from the articles it sounds like an awesome ride. I just can't get over how many you see. It is just too common to be impressive unless you are the first guy on the block with one. Wait a few months and it is just another turbo. However, the SL, 172 in the entire United States...I don't think it will ever be common. The Porsche may have a performance edge but they are the same, save some hard track driving. Even then, are you really going to push either to that limit?

I vote SL...but then again, I just bought one. GL.

Don't discount the R8. The V8 is a phenomenal car ( i own one and do the same as you driving wise,) and the V10 is no doubt better.

If you want a car just for look, the the SL is a winner, but the V10 R8 is superior to the SL in every way. The LP560 shares a ton of components with it, including the engine, which can be chipped and exhaust/intake to make 560 numbers.

I'd say 997.2/V10 R8, then GSL/GTR. F430 isn't even in the mix.

I wouldn't discount the V10 R8 either, but it's a bit out of your price range.

I will admit I am a bit biased, but I know around here in NY you'd get the same amount of attention in one as an SL. Based on what you're looking at I'd say go with the Lambo though.

> the V10 R8 is superior to the SL in every way

All of these can be had for about the same amount of money:

R8 5.2 V10 FSI = 386 kW, 530 Nm, 1620 kg (4.197 kg/kW)
Gallardo LP560-4 = 410 kW, 540 Nm, 1410 kg (3.439 kg/kW)
Gallardo 2008 SL = 390 kW, 510 Nm, 1360 kg (3.487 kg/kW)

> can be chipped and exhaust/intake to make 560

And how do you plan to strip more than 200 kg from that R8?

PS: My funny anecdote: I test drove the R8 V10 on a German
Autobahn back when it came out. After reaching 300 km/h the
sales guy asked "So how do you like it?" and I said "It is a bit
under-powered and over-weight... compared to my SL." Not a
response he was expecting. ;-D

Despite the extra 200kg it still puts down the same 0-60 and 11.8 quarter mile. On top of that it put down a faster Nurburgring time then the SL. Not saying one is superior to the other, but it seems that extra 200kg of refinement haven't slowed it down. Also, just like me you seem to be bias but thats OK lol

Not that it makes a difference, but just read the R8's quarter time is actually 11.7.

I say SL based upon the following factors: performance is about the same, depreciation is a positive for SL (already experienced most of it), and wow factor easily to the SL. As for the track experience, SL is a track beast and is superior to my '07 997TT. Keep in mind the SL is setup for track duty, the Turbo suspension is not. All are great cars!!! GL

The 2010 TT is no doubt the fastest (tested 3.2 sec from 0-62) one by far but it is meant to be daily driven. if u just want a car for the weekend, i`d go for a SL or R8.

Does not weigh 200kg less. You're dreaming. The LP560 walks an SL too btw.

What about maintenance for both? Getting the 2010 and the warranty would be nice. And not sure how the SL holds up with everything (clutch and whatnot.) Only have heard stories about the 04 G's. I'm sure the SL is 1000 times better car though. What colors were you looking at?

Hi guys,

I guess I made up my mind and I will try to have the best of both worlds. I will be looking for an LP560 2009/2010. This way I will get the last model, the last technology, the look, the sound and the stereo

In what concerns the budget, I have seen an LP560 on autotrader for $178,000. So hopefully in march/april I could close a deal on an LP560 for 150k$-160k$.

Thoughts?

For 2008 Audi claimed these...

R8 V10 1620kg as per page 58
LP560-4 1410kg as per page 62

...in http://www.audi.com/etc/medialib/ngw...uz_2008_en.pdf

For 2007 Audi claimed these...

LP560-4 1500kg as per page 60
2008 SL 1330kg as per page 62

...in http://www.audi.com/etc/medialib/ngw...3_par_0012.pdf

When the SL came out they claimed this...

2008 SL 1360kg as per page 4/5

...in http://www.vonbraun.se/_Pages/55/Sup...nformation.pdf

Heffner weighed one at...

3312lb = 1502kg

...at http://www.heffnersperformance.com/ttgbuild.htm

It's unclear how much fuel they had in it -- 90l is almost 150lb.

> You're dreaming.

Maybe some day I come across an R8 V10 owner where I live, and we
can visit the same scale, with all liquids topped including the gas tank.

> The LP560 walks an SL too btw.

In a straight line that shouldn't come as a surprise, considering the rpm
at which the 5.0 vs 5.2 FSI generate maximum torque.

Now take both into the hills. (Been there, done that. ;-)

I've yet to see anything that shows the SL being better than an LP560 in any way other than personal taste.

The LP560 adopted a lot of the R8 improvements.
