I would have to say that my, "dream car", would be the Lamborghini Diablo VT, yellow exterior, with the yellow and black interior. I just love that car! However, even as old as the Diablo is, I don't usually see any for less than $100K. Why are they still that expensive? I've seen other exotics or high end, exclusive vehicles that were once selling for $200K, and are are now below $100K. For example, a MB S65 AMG was such a car, and some are selling for $70K to $80K now. I know it's not a true exotic like the Diablo, so it's just a rough comparison. Anyway, would love to have a Diablo in my garage someday, but with the price it is still commanding I don't think that will happen anytime soon. Thanks!

Umm...supply and demand, maybe?

Probably so. When GEICO settled a claim for a Syclone I owned that was a total loss, they paid me more than what I paid for it originally. That was a vehicle which was only produced one year, and there just weren't many of them (2500 or so total?) Obviously that's not in the same league as a Lambo, but an appropriate example of supply and demand. Still, with those Diablos were cheaper!

Make sure it's what you want. I owned one. Beautiful to look at but not much fun to drive, very, very expensive to service, and many of the parts are unobtainium.

My 1,100 mile service was $15,000.

Holy cow, $15K for a 1,100 mile service?! I guess that's why it'll always be a dream car. People complained about the service on the GT-R but I was okay with it. And still a lot less expensive than a Lambo. And still one of the quickest cars on the road. Well, I guess the saying goes, if you can afford to buy a $300K car, you can afford the maintenance, right? I suppose I'll have to set my sights on another exotic that isn't so expensive, or get another GT-R and modify it to a more exotic look. Thanks!

Not fun to drive? I'll have to disagree strongly there. Mine is a RWD early Diablo. $15k maintenance at 1100 miles just means it wasn't properly taken care of. Sat too long or something else funky. They can be expensive to maintain but on avaerage I would plan for $7500 a year. If you buy a car well sorted an taken care of it will be inexpensive. I've had mine almost 4 years and have maybe $25 k in maintenance but my car was not properly taken care of before I got it. You should be able to find an early VT for close to $100 but that specific color combo will be harder to find.

Even $7500 a year in maintenance is a pretty penny to me. Maybe there are a lot of very well off people on this board who think nothing of spending that kind of money on vehicle maintenance, but unfortunately that doesn't include me.

It was a shock to me at first. I'm not saying you will have that expense, I'm just saying if you do get one o be prepared for it. My big maintenance costs was right after I got the car and was over $20k. In the 3 years since it has just been fluids, a battery, etc. If you buy the right car your upkeep won't be bad. Per the example above, an S65 AMG out of warranty will be even worse!

For a weekend, drive it to work one day a week (weather permitting!), I'd be willing to spend about $1,000 a year on maintenance. So that really puts me out of the running for something like a Lambo. Thanks for all the great info everyone!
