Behind the Scenes of "Lambo vs. Bush" at the Gumball Rally

Editor's Note: Christian Moe is the guy who filmed the now-famous scene at this year's Gumball rally where a Lamborghini Aventador did its best to become an arsonist. Here is the story of the bush-burning Lambo, from Christian's eyewitness perspective.

When you get a collection of gearheads and supercars together, there is bound to be some hoonage and chaos; case in point, the charred hedges in front of the W Hotel in Miami. It was not long after I had gotten to my room that I heard the unmistakable wail of a V12. As I rushed to the balcony, I find that directly below my room is a matte-black Aventador, and the owner is letting guests rev it until the valves are bouncing on the decklid. It was glorious.

After several bouts of revving, there was a noticeable amount of smoke arising from the bushes directly behind the car. A quickly thrown glass of wine from a bystander surely would have quelled any danger, but this is Gumball.

Rather than call it a day, they backed the car closer to the bush and laid into the throttle in aggressive bursts. For almost all supercars, hitting the rev limiter and jumping out of the throttle dumps a massive amount of unused fuel into the exhaust, creating the fireballs that look so great on the Top Gear slow-mo cameras. One large fireball later at point-blank range, and poof, a massive plume of smoke appears, leaving nothing but scorched vegetation in its wake.
