Gallardo daily driver?
Gallardo daily driver?
Hey guys,
Well I am on the lookout for a new car. I had planned on the 997TT as my next car, and as my daily driver. However the Gallardo has intrigued me the last few weeks.
Anyone using their Gallardo as a daily driver (I will put about 11,000 miles a year on the car)? Have there been any major problems with the Gallardos to date?
I would also love opinions if you had a 996TT as a daily driver and how it would compare to the Gallardo, to be used as daily driver.
Thanks,
Kunal

i DD'ed a 996TT for a little bit and like all porsches its mild mannerd for daily usage..i got good gas mileage out of it and had plenty of stow and go space.
the gallardo i can't comment on in detail because i just got a ride in one (thanks Ray!
). it doesn't seem like it would be a pain to DD, suspension didn't feel too stiff, seemed like it was just rite for a balance of performance and daily driving.
Ray or one of the other 6speeders will probably come along and input on this directly, he'll be able 2 tell you much more about it.
IMO, if both were in my price range, if i could choose between a gallardo and a 996TT (ignoring my huge pro porsche prejudice)...i would take the gallardo just because its well behaved enuff, it looks the part, and gathers a lot of attention.

Should not be a problem except:
Not many DD their Lambos so yours will be a tough sell
It attracts too much attention which is a PITA sometimes
Visibility is poor and I would worry where I park it
It is too low if you live in a place with too many steep roads/bumps
No trunk space for groceries
Other than that I put 6K miles on mine last year and LOVE IT

Omar, nice to meet you today!
I've drove the Gallrado couple days and it can be DD but if you want to. Groceries or bigger bags will not fit into trunk. Attention is another big issue, you don't want to park it anywhere u can't see it. other than that, i see no problem to use the G as DD.

How much more attention do you all get in the Gallardo versus the 996TT?
My main concern is reliability and getting too much attention. I figure a 997TT will probably get less attention, but I do not know how much less.

not really meant for daily driving. if you love putting it through that abuse...go for it!
go TT if you dont have another daily driver, then again, I would never daily driver a TT either. thats what sedans, trucks and SUVs are made for. keep the 100k+ cars away from shopping carts

In WI the attention issue with the Gallardo is huge.Every time I take mine out, people pull along side with their camera phones.Constant thumbs up.Getting gas is now an event.etc..
The Gallardo has gotten more attention in the 2 short months I've owned it, than my TT did in 4 years.Much more!
It would be like walking though the mall with a naked Pamela Anderson.

The other issue,is you really have to know the roads. The Gallardo sits much lower than the TT.
have owned '03 996TT with mods, and '04 Gallardo 6-speed. Both were reasonalbe daily drivers, the porsche a little more ergonomic with luggage space, less spectators, and better clearance in driveways. but the "G" car always made me smile more.
