yes, it's aftermarket. well, it's a factory mirror that has been modified.

a lot of shops do this.

my question would be why though? unless you can remotely mount the V1, why bother? you'll just have the V1 unit right next to the mirror anyway.

somebody did post a link a while back to a remote V1 mounting kit. i think that would be the only way it would be worthwhile.

it looks awesome and i dont want to give up the space that a factory V1 unit would take on the front windshield

I know this place has mirrors for Ferrari/Porsche... maybe they can hook you up with something for the Gallardo.

The windshield mounted V1 in my G takes up very little space...I sometimes forget it's there...I took power from the upper light console for a clean look

I have seen it a number times in BMW's as is the picture you posted, but the funny thing is in the e46 m3 at least you can actually get a chip which puts the data read out directly into your dash information screen along with the SMG II data. Now that is seamless. I have had mine hardwired for years in my old car, to the sunroof I believe, not sure how it would work out in the G though. I hope it works out for you. Keep us posted.

Just to clarify, you still need to mount the V1 innards somewhere, and if not on the windshield, then it would have to be outside the passenger compartment, which would require a special case for the V1, the mirror is just a display, not the detector itself.

the guts of the V1 can be held in an external unit, to be mounted on the roof, or the whole unit can be placed inthe mirror. the downside of the latter is radar effectivness may be comprimised. i am looking into both at the moment, leaning towards whole unit in the mirror. does anybody else have any interest?

I put the guts up in the headliner, no laser but otherwise didn't effect performance
