Hello, I'm new to the forum. I was thinking about getting a 911 s, or 911 s 4 and I was looking at Gallardo pricing. I see that 2005 Gallardo's can be had for 140k. I am wondering what the upkeep pricing is though.

Is it Ferrari high, or Porsche amounts?

Any feedback is appreciated.

OK, in all honesty I think the right number for a nice clean 05 is around 85K so anyone charging you 100K is a rip off especially considering the $18K/yr in insurance and $20K/yr in maintenance costs.

 

Bummer, looks great as a newb to come out so strong. Sorry, I meant an 04 for (around) 100k. So maybe more like 140 k for an 04 if you get a really really good deal.

The real question is ownership costs, what are those like. Service etc.

it all depends on the car, clutch wear, the way you drive it, how often you do. is it paddle or 6speed. has the car undergone recent tune ups, all those factors come into play.

So I hear the clutch is a major cost if you burn it out (5k). Also that paddle will less likely burn out your clutch.

I also heard overall that the cost isn't as bad as say a F360.

Manuals have less problems and generally wear the clutch less. The 06's have a lot on minor changes that have improved the car quite a lot, plus a little more power.

I have an 06 with 9.5k miles, I have had 14 months.

I need to replace the tires soon....probably $1,200-$1,500.

The clutch still good for at least another 7-10k miles.

7,500 mile service cost me $950.00.

150-200 miles to a tank depending on how hard you drive.

Insurance will depend on driving record, age and where you live.

 

I have an 06 and all my costs other than a recent service were mods and tires. I think it is a relatively cheap car to own as far as maintenace costs. It is more reliable so far than all of my other cars.

6 speed is the way to go both as far as clutch life as well as overall fun.

I would say don't do it. Get the 911. The Gallardo is much better than previous Lambo's. After all it was build by Audi. But 2004 is the technically the least reliable yr. 2006 has improved software, upgrades etc which make it more reliable. However, you are looking at $160k+ for 2006 MY. Btw, check with you insurance before you get the sticker shock of $100k cars. The Lambo and Ferrari are in a whole different league.

I will probably end up going 911 and then buying in on an airplane, and a ski resort property then unless i get a nice return on a real estate deal me and a buddy are working on. I'm not up to the 160k level yet, and am probably jumping the gun. I just got this big infusion of cash and it's burning a frigging hole in my pocket.

 

Sorry, I'm kinda confused. You're at a buy an airplane and a ski resort home level? But not a 160k car level?

 

I just got mine serviced, cost 7k...but that's because I had to get the front repainted due to some nasty rock chips (that of course, missed the clear bra by like 1/4 of an inch).
