Forum for the new Macan
Looking forward to this one. My wife loved her Audi Q5.
I think the first thing that should be a sticky is how to pronounce Macan. It's the Indonesian word for 'tiger', not a city in Georgia!

Macan = mah-chahn
Here's a hint - it DOES NOT rhyme with 'bacon'!! Although I guess it is a junior pig. . .

So that means starting from about EUR 40K in Germany.

According to the German carmagazine Auto Motor und Sport, Porsche will introduce a Macan Turbo, early 2014, with a slightly detuned V6 from the Panamera S. It's mated to the Porsche PDK. This engine will have 380hp and leaves the Macan Turbo almost without any close competition.
Later in 2014 will also come a Macan Turbo S with the same engine, alltough not detuned. This will have 420hp

That's what I was thinking too!!
Currently I own an Audi Q5 with airsuspension and seriously... that is already a very well handling SUV. The Macan is based on it and tweaked by Porsche. Can't even imagine how good that will be, not even mentioning that engine.
Think this is gonna be a huge succes for Porsche. At least in Europe. Don't exactly know how these (in U.S terms) small SUVs sell in the U.S. Here this is a mid-size SUV because our roads are not as wide and big
LOL

AMG is nothing more than a big engine in a Merc... Handling is an unknown phenomenon in Affalterbach and designwise a Merc will never compete with a Porsche IMO.
It's gonna be the handling that makes the difference for the Porsche Macan, like they did with the Cayenne. There's still no SUV that handles like the Cayenne, even the new Range Rover Sport doesn't. (it comes close though). Since the Macan is lower, smaller and lighter than the Cayenne, it should be even better. No Merc or AMG will even come close.
I think the closest competitor comes from their sisterbrand Audi with the SQ5, from Range Rover Evoque (rumors are that they come with a new powerful engine) and maybe from BMW if they introduce an X3 in M-trim.
My speculation is the base will be $42K, the S will be $54K and the Turbo will start at $66K and quickly option to $80K+.

One thing that has kept me from buying another Porsche is the pricing of certain models (and then lack of standard features). A 380HP Turbo for $66k puts this square in my sights, finally.
BUT - I'm not too optimistic.
Never.....

Here's a test between the New Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged and the Cayenne Turbo (on and off track). I think we can excpect the same from the Macan, although that will not have the terrain capabillities from a Cayenne I think.
